Flylady & Christmas

Thank you for this site CC... I've looked at Flylady before and even started 'shining my sink'.... but things fell apart at home and I fell off the wagon. I know I'd be better off If I could stick to it!

Do you 'fly'? How do you like it?

Jenn

Well, I flop more than fly, but at least I'm trying :) My wings are a little young I think :) Actually, I started out on the SHE system and still like it (worked better for me) so I may revert to it to keep myself organized after the holidays. But I love the holiday countdown and do it every year... Glad you like the site!

I have a ? for any other fly ladies - We're supposed to keep our sinks shiny, so in the morning if you grab a quick piece of toast or something like that, do you wash your butter knife and clean up the sink again? or do you wait until you accumulate a few more dishes and then clean up?

I haven't been keeping up with my FlyLady for the past couple months because of the kitchen/dining room remodeling. It's time to bring it back, though, especially with the holidays approaching.

Mindi, Fly Lady helps you get decluttered and maintain a home that you would feel comfortable if you had company at any time. It doesn't have to be a spotless house, but she helps you tackle the jobs a little at a time. Here's the link:

The main thing I learned from Fly Lady is to shine your kitchen sink and don't leave the dishes overnight (I don't always do it) and get up in the morning and get dressed like you are going somewhere! I am not the kind of person who jumps up out of bed, throws on some sweats or jeans and a t-shirt, put my hair in a pony tail, and head out for the whole world to see. I like to be slightly polished so I'm ready for anybody and anything. Fly Lady reminds me to put my shoes on too (since I work at home, this helps me feel like I'm at a JOB).

I LOVE flylady!! I saw someone post a message about her here on this very site about a year ago. Being nosey, I checked it out. I have been following her for about a year to varying degrees (I had a terrible pregnancy, then a new baby...), but now I'm back to flying. Even when I was pregnant and so tired she helped me to manage my house a little at a time. Some of my friends are now starting to fly and they love it too! Some people just don't "get it" I find, but that is fine. My mom is arriving today for a visit and here I am on the computer instead of madly running around cleaning my house!! :>

As for your question, I must say that it depends on the day whether I put the stuff in the dishwasher immediately or wait for a few things to pile up. Some days it takes me until noon or 3:00 to finish my morning routine, but some days I have everything done by nine. I have a 3 month old DS and a 2 year old DS, so I try not to get stressed out about getting things done on a schedule...just as long as they get done. That is what flylady is all about I think.

I have not started the Christmas prep yet, as per flylady, because I'm moving Dec. 1. After that I will start organizing things to have a stress free holiday.

Here's what Flylady recommends: if you have a dishwasher, keep putting dishes in it as you go. Keep your sink washed out and looking good. If you don't have a dishwasher, you can wash individual dishes as you go, or a good suggestion is to keep a dishpan under your sink as a repository for those single dishes throughout the day. Then when you've got several things in there, simply add soap and water, and wash.

I personally love my dish sponge, it has a handle that holds soap, so you just wet it and easily wash one item quickly. I keep mine propped up inside a plastic cup under my sink so it's handy when I need it.

Hey, I'm psychic! LOL. Never read that before, but a week or 2 ago, I started doing just that. It seems like when the kitchen is clean before I go to bed, the whole house feels cleaner! I spend those few minutes while dh puts the baby to bed picking up. I think flylady would be proud!
