I've been looking over what the 'cutting edge' of scrapbooking has become and to be it's becoming more and more embellishment gallore. Then I look back to what our grandmothers were doing way back when. What new trends do you think will be showing up? Cuz I am seriously looking at some of this stuff and trying to figure the $$ and the outragious things some scrapers go through to get the 'perfect' page.

Bratt,

I have to say I know what you are talking about - seeing a higher price at your LSS as opposed to what JoAnns, Michaels, and maybe even what websites are charging. The thing we have to remember is that a LSS probably has a higher overhead and don't have people coming in to look at other crafty things and then getting turned on to scrapbooking.

I drive to a store that is an hour away. There are some things that are worth it to buy from them because you can't get anything comparable at the larger places and you can see and feel the papers (which you can't do on a website). They do charge higher prices on some things that I have seen at JoAnns, Michaels, and even Walmart so I don't buy those particular things there. But the customer service and quality of products I get at the not so LSS is far beyond the service I get at the other places. I don't go to another not so LSS that is 45 minutes away because they don't seem very passionate about the hobby or their customers and they don't keep the latest and greatest (neither do the big stores).

Also buying power plays a big part in pricing. Websites also don't have to actually stock much. They have the option of just ordering from their suppliers when a customers wants it.Less risk of dead stock.
