Thank you Susanne! As far as I know there is no German in my lineage but my family has always done the Christmas eve exchange too. It's a tradition that I'm proud to continue. Guess I need to ask Mom where it came from. Her family or Dad's, or both? Have a joyous New Year!

I had a wonderful Christmas. I hope you didn't feel too lonley so far away from home. Were you able to have a goose for christmas? I did go to the "Weihnachtsmarkt" (they are called this way in this area, but there is probably no big difference) here in Chemnitz. They had opened an ice rink in the center of town. It was a lot of fun. By the way, if you ever feel like you want to go to a german "Weihnachtsmarkt" go to Ohio. Akron and Chemnitz present the "Akron Christkindlmarket" there.

This is right, but I probably wouldn't say it this way. I would wish you a "gesundes Neues Jahr" or "einenen guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr".

So enjoy the last days of the old year! Susanne

thanks for the Happy New Year phrase... I'll be sending that to myself for this weekend :D Having grown up in eastern Ohio, you'd be amazed I'd NOT heard of that before. Akron is only a little over an hour from home! When we go back for another Christmas, you bet I'll have to stop there :) Thanks for that tidbit!

As to Christmas, it's one I'd rather forget LOL I got Dh some really thoughtful things and he got me... NOTHING. He ordered it and as of this afternoon's mail, it still hadn't come LOL Oh well! it's the giving season anyway :) I was quite lonely for family and friends, but we made several calls to family members Sunday and Monday to do some catching up :)

Where, Susan?

I was born in Warren (my parents were both born & raised there) but moved away when I was 4.

Hope your gift has arrived now Susan and that you didn't feel too sad over Christmas. It is really hard being away from home and family at the holidays!!! Wishing you a "guid new year" from Scotland on Hogmany :o)

Take care, Marilyn

I think the market in Ohio took just place for the second or third time... That's probably why you haven't heard of it. Hope you've got your presents now....

Sorry for my late replies... i've been swamped since new years.

I got my gift. CK encyclopedia of scrapbooking... nice. Some things are basic for me, but some ideas to be found :D And a funny book I can't remember the title of now but when I find it agian, I'll share it. It's about scrapping! :D

As to where in Ohio I and DH both grew up in (our schools were in the same county - Harrison)... I'm from Scio and he's from Cadiz. you might have heard of his town LOL Steubenville is 30 minutes from where I grew up from 4th grade on.

The 3 kings came calling to the house tonight. They sang a song and recited a little something, none of which other than weinachten did I recognize. They had props (ie one was carrying a star on a stick) and very nice costumes. I'm sorry i missed the beginning... CG apparently heard the doorbell while we were in the LR. Don't know how we missed it LOL Now I wonder if we missed the landlord on Monday as our water bill was left in the mailbox. YIKES!

Anyway... I hope to catch up with y'all agian soon. I'm planning on a friend coming Tuesday to scrap. Matthew started back to the elementary's preschool program this morning and will go MWRF for 2.5 hours. i'm so excited. He had a good first day too! :)

SUSAN!!!! You and dh from that part of Ohio?!!

Scio, do you mean Sciotoville? My adopted parents lived there in Ports area where they passed away. papa's family was from the Cadiz area and I have a nephew there. My real fam was from Dayton area, step fam from Mt Vernon where I "matured" and joined the service from.

Such a mall world and hope things are going great for ya'll there in the ole country!!
