Glass cutting mat

I bought one a few years back because I thought I would need it. I still might have use for it except........I have no idea what it is used for.

Can someone tell me what I can do with this glass mat?

Looking at this question I realize it is very tempting but....control yourselves!

I use a piece of tempered glass on my work area. It helps to cut sharp edges (trim) fine details on things with a exacto type knife. Albeit, it does dull the blades!

Another reason I like it and use it is adhesives are VERY EASY to clean off of it, with some alcohol or baby wipes.

As far as those "real" glass mats, I really can not say what their intended purpose was, except to use in the kitchen as they are easier to disinfect.

I think the real ones were for those shape cutters. The little round ones that you had to stand over and look straight down through for a good cut. Yet another something that most everyone had to have and now they're probably in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. I have a piece of glass I took out of a frame to use when I'm cutting w/ a x-acto knife, which isn't often since I suck at it.

Now that you mention it, I bought that mat when I bought a fiskars shape cutter. I couldn't get the hang of that shape cutter so it was yet another waste of money. Dave gave me a good idea though, I'll try using it a as a cutting board in the kitchen.

I have never used a glass mat. I use a self healing cutting mat, or my coluzzle mat if I need to do any precision cutting.

...LOL I had to laugh at your last comment...that was too funny! Linda C
