Martha Stewart

Ok, so I went into Micheals today (for something that had nothing to do with scrapbooking- totally unlike me!) and the scrapbook area was nearly emptied out. I asked what was going on and they said they were clearing the shelves for Martha Stewart stuff. The cashier said it would be expensive and that Micheals coupons will not work with any Martha Stewart product. They were actually tearing up 12x12 papers and piling them into shopping carts, I could have taken them off of thier hands! lol There must be some sort of exclusivity deal between Micheals and Martha. Has anyone heard about this, or seen any of the products? Is it really priced high?

I have heard about her line for a while now. I believe the line is branded by EK Success. Though I haven't seen any of it personally, those on other boards I read that have were not that impressed - comparing it to the Creating Keepsakes line that is sold exclusively at Joanns stores - very plain and basic.

Honestly, I am not a big fan of Martha, I believe she just jumped on the scrapbooking wagon to make a quick buck. Though I will go have a look when Michael's finally gets it in stock. =)

I am anxious to see it because a friend of mine from college works for EK Success, and he worked with Martha to develop the line. I asked him for details a few months ago, but he said that if he told me, he'd have to kill me :) So I knew it was coming, and am anxious to see it. I would have been upset to see them tearing up paper just to make space...what a waste. I hope the Martha stuff isn't too pricey, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

Actually, Martha has been into scrapbooking for many years. If you remember her old catalog (defunct for several years now) she always had section of scrapbooking supplies. She geared more toward traditional "archiving" than what we call scrapbooking but her interest in the craft has always been there.

I heard about it when I was at Michaels last week. She showed some of the things in her talk at CHA. It is very simple looking, bland stuff. I wasn't that impressed with it.

What a tragedy... I don't go to Michaels because it's too far away but it's sad whenever ONE company/person gets a monopoly on a store. They never have everything that you'd like them to, and the prices always go up. :(

I'll go dumpster diving too. I met Ms. Stewart and I wouldn't pay for anything she is peddling if she was the last scrapbook vendor on earth. It's too bad Michaels' is becoming Martha Stewart Arts and Crafts instead of Michael's Arts and Crafts.

Well poop. I wonder if the Michaels here is clearing shelves. I'll have to go check later this week. Of course, I'll check out the Martha Stewart stuff, but I honestly can't say I'm all that excited about it.

It was so sad to walk into Michaels today and see all the empty shelves. There were signs up saying the Martha Stewart stuff was coming and also some new exciting scrapbooking items. They had the 8 1/2 x 11 paper on sale for $0.15, but the 12 x 12 wasn't on sale.

I checked out my Michael's today and they were empting the scrapbook area out. Martha's stuff must be on the shelf By April 28--National Scrapbook Day! The clerk also told me they are going to carry two other lines besides hers but did not know which ones. I got a nice deal on Staz-On ink, LOL!

More tidbits about the upcoming Martha Stewart line read on another board...

You will not be able to use coupons on her items for one year, and the coupons are already beong printed stating that MS items are excluded.

There will be an album in the line that is priced at $79 (I hope this turns out to be some kind of a kit).

And, if this is true, the employees must unpack and display all Martha Stewart items while wearing white gloves....=)

We shall see,

IMO that's a bad marketing mistake... it'll raise their profit margin on each item, but unless her product line is something outrageously fantastic or already bargain-basement-priced, a lot of people will go elsewhere where they can get it cheaper. But it's their business (or not!)

I agree with you there - I hardly ever walk into Michaels unless I have a coupon. And if it's true about the $79 album, then it doesn't sound like her line will be bargain pricedl! =)
