Holy Cow! What a day....

I am going to play "Polyanna" and say how blessed I am that I have NOT had many days like this, but I seriously don't know if I could survive another...

First, I had to go get my license renewed. Nothing like reminding a person they are about to be a year older. The picture was HORRIBLE (of course) and the fee had gone up $5. Since DH's birthday is in April, he took the day off so we could go together and ended up costing us $10 more. Nothing huge, but it's the principle.

Then we find out that the insurance company made a "boo-boo" last April with a bill and we owe $50 to the hospital. Just another piece of bamboo under the fingernail.

We drop off my van to get new brake pads at Sears. When we get there they have NO record of us calling the day befor and making an appt. So, DH goes through EXACTLY what he wants. New brake pads on the rear brakes...NOTHING MORE!

Next, grocery shopping (my favorite...just behind getting a Brazilian wax). We head to the Super Wal*Mart. After the annoying empty shelves and non-existence employees when you need help and the missing price stickers (running to the price finder of which there are only FOUR in the entire store and the closest one didn't work!) then we finally make it to the register. I have dealt with rude people before, but this experience has made me say I will NEVER go in ANY Wal*Mart again. I was accused of stealing! Yep, I get all my groceries rung up (over $100) and hand them TWO coupons (one was $1 off 2 boxes of Reese Puff Cereal and the other was 70¢ off Yogurt Cheerios) and the cashier turns on her blinking light. The "red vest" approaches and tells me that those coupons are fraudulent. I told her that I got them online at

formatting link
(feel free to verify that those

2 coupons are there). The website was even printed on the side. She said that they couldn't accept them because I could have just made them up and printed them. "Could have"??? The people behind me were looking at me like I was white trash. I wanted to crawl into the floor. My stuff was already bagged and in the cart, but there was NO way I was going to spend a penny in that store. I told her that I would just go elsewhere. As I was walking away she said, "You won't be able to use those at any other store either." I fought the urge to turn around and slap her. Here I had wasted over an hour shopping and waaaaaaaaay too long standing in line then to leave with nothing, but I absolutely couldn't give them a cent.

DH reminded me that we still needed to get gas so we went across the street to fill up. A mere $55 to fill up his truck... Then he goes inside to pay and when he comes out and is driving off I hear something strange. I asked, "Did you hit somebody?" Then we look behind us and see that there is a long hose dragging behind the truck. Yep, he had driven off without taking the nozzle thingy out of the gas thingy! He gets out and takes it inside where they MAKE HIM PAY FOR A NEW ONE!

I felt faint at this point. We finally get home and Sears calls to tell us that they are finishing turning my rotors. What the hell does that even mean??? I told DH and he hit the roof. He grabbed the phone and yells, "I told y'all EXACTLY what I wanted and blah, blah, blah!"

We had told the boys that we would take them out to dinner tonight and we had invited our oldest DS (who lives on his own now) and his girlfriend. So we went by and picked them up then headed to the restaurant. I have to say that we had the best service we have had at any restaurant in a long time. VERY pleasant experience.

Then we get home and I tell DH that I WANT a drink! He reminds me that we don't have any mixers because we still hadn't actually made it out of a store with groceries. No juice, coke, nothing. A full liquor cabinet and nothing to drink. Let me add a side note here: I do NOT endorse drowning one's troubles in alcohol. I drink VERY rarely and ONE is my limit because my tolerance is so low, but my neck was so tight I think you could have bounced a quarter off it. It literally hurts from tensing it so long. So, DH comes up with an excellence idea... Caramel Apple Shots! I am now feeling no pain, but still angry about my VERY expensive day.

Too bad I didn't have a camera when that hose thingy was dragging along behind us. I have to admit I would have laughed if I didn't think DH would have made me walk home! Of course, that was BEFORE I realized how much a hose thingy costs!

Thanks for listening to me rant.

I sure had to laugh reading this! I've had days that were not nearly as....shall I say....exciting?! I know you two were just glad when it was time to crawl into bed! I can just see your DH driving away with the hose still in the truck. I might have been tempted to turn the corner, take it out tossing it in the vehicle for later disposal and not gone back! LOL Though you DH did the right thing. So just out of curiosity, how much does one of those pump hoses cost??

So sorry you had such a rough day. At least it ended well with a great dinner. The caramel apple shots sound yummy too. What's in them?

I thought I replied to this last night via google, and it didnt show up? hmm..so I am in my OE checking... nope not there either. Wonder what happened to it? Maybe I hit cancel instead of post! aarghh!

Anyway, Cathy I am sorry you had such a bad day! I perform customer service everyday, and there is no reason why the employees at Walmart had to treat you like that! Shame on them! I'm sure it was embarrassing for you guys too. I know it isnt funny about the gas pump, but I got kind of a chuckle out of the visual image...and I cant imagine how much it had to cost to replace it! My DH is a mechanic and they would never go ahead and fix a customers car before getting permission. Did you have to pay extra for getting the rotors turned too? After that kind of day I think I would have wanted a drink too! LOL I have heard that caramel apple shots are good. what is in them?

WOW you did have a day from hell. I'm so sorry, but I was laughing reading it. Well, not the walmart part. But the hose thingy. I was picturing it in my mind. (by the way how much is one) LOL. I can not believe that about walmart. I don't go there very often. I only do if I have to get a present or somthing. My husband hates going there. He would much rather go to Kroger. He thinks Kroger is cheaper. Especially if you shop the sales. I hope today is much better for you.

I'm sorry you had such a challengind day! I'd like to be totally sympathetic but the hose thing almost made me spit out my diet coke! I would have been so tempted to laugh too but my dh would have made me walk and at my speed I'd probably still be walking somewhere! I can't believe WalMart did that! How horrable I've had a store refuse a coupon before too because they no me there and I had used one before but NOWHER on the coupon does it say one per costomer but she told me the guy that got her to put the coupons in the book said she didn't have to accept more than one per person. I thought this was so dumb because it was a scrapbooking coupon, my mom doesn't scrapbook so she gave me hers. But instead of taking my 100$+ order she refused my coupon so I just left everything on the counter and left! I willNEVER go back there!!! What's a carmel apple shot? Sounds awesome! Boy, and I thought I had some rough days! But I'm sure one day you'll look back on this and laugh. I had to giggle though at your DH and the hose. I think I would have had a hard time not laughing, too!

Hi That was a really great story thanks for sharing ,I really enjoyed reading it . I would have to agree with people that go to Walmart don't...... get treated right and I agree with the stories about walmart and the way they treated you was wrong too . People need to start standing up to walmart... that way those cashiers and CSM"S (red vest ) don't get away with what they can ...they do it cause they know that no one will do them do anything about it . Its not going to help just by walking out just then it get them the power and they don't care if you come back or not . Start calling 1-800-WALMART have it on speed dial if you must . You can show them that you mean business . thanks Walmart Associate

Wow...you poor thing! Each of those is bad on their own, but to have all of that in one day. I would have started drinking the straight alcohol without mixers..Yikes!

Hope today is better...

I was getting OS all the stuff he needed for his dorm room last year and I think there is only one Walmart in Montreal and it was packed with parents doing the same. We had two carts full of stuff, paid our $200+ bill and as the guy closed his till drawer, he realized he had given me a toonie ($2 coin) change instead of a loonie ($1 coin). Apparently they can't randomly open their drawer. A supervisor has to do it. We stood there waiting and waiting for a supervisor and finally just walked out. OH MY!!!!! A supervisor came running after us, yelling at OS, "What do you kids think you are doing?" I think if OS had tried that on his own he would have gone to jail. Made me wonder why the supervisor couldn't have come to open a till but could come running into the parking lot for a dollar.

I had an experience with Walmart just before the holidays. My purse was stolen right out of my cart so I had no money, keys or cellphone. I went to customer service but it was 2 teenage girls who didn't even call security or offer any assistance. I then went to the greeter who was an elderly man and explained what happened and asked to use the phone so my husband could bring keys to the store. I was told Walmart does not have a phone that can dial out. I asked what they would do if they were robbed or there was an emergency and he said they have emergency button that goes directly to 911. I then went to a woman in a red vest and explained what happened and she paged the manager. He came up front and handed me his personal cell phone.

Fortunately my number was in still in his cellphone because they found my purse later that night. The thief only took the cash and my cellphone keys and credit cards were all still there. I was a still a bit upset with the store because I felt the customer service people should have assisted me but I was glad the manager was nice and he apologised for the poor customer service response and assured me that it would be addressed. He asked for my name and address because he was going to make a report. A week later I received a letter of apology from the corporate office and a $25 Walmart card!

I work for Walmart and you are right..we cant open our drawers by ourselves. We have to call a CSM or send it through a palm pilot for approval.....see, they dont even trust their employees.

There are only 3 phones left in my store that will call out..the fitting room, electronics and personel.

Wow are they trying to cut down on outside calls made by employees? I know when I worked for a small business well there were 300 employees it was my job as accountant to pay the bills. They were in a money saving mode and I decided to go over the phone bill with a fine tooth comb. I couldn't believe how many long distance personal calls were made by employees! It would never occur to me to do such a thing. Especially something so easily tracked down if someone decided to. Because the bill was so large I only traced the calls that were made frequently to the same numbers. One of them being a friend of mine who called her Grandma on a regular basis. I let every one know their numbers had been tracked down how much money they were costing the company on a monthly basis and told them the next month I was going to have to make a report to the corporate headquarters. Amazingly the bill went down a lot the next month.
