Masculine Scrapping Ideas Needed

I want to put together something for a male friend (single & mid-forties)who has a birthday in May. My first thought was a paperbag book because those are quick and easy, and they make great gifts, but I wonder if that's something a woman might like better than a man. I want something that's kind of fun, but not silly. My plan is to include some group photos of our circle of friends, plus a few where he's clowning aroud.

Help!

Find out what he likes to do. Hobbies, etc. If he likes cars do one with a car theme. My dad liked bears so when I have time I am going to do a small one with bears. I have a cute pose-able bear I am going to glue to the cover. I also plan to use some fake fur from the fabric store on one page as a frame and single picture in the center. I am going to shave that section so I can glue the picture down good.

But, I would go with what he likes. If you don't know or can't find out then stick with blues, greens, browns, black the more male colors (not always dark).

You could also go with a theme that isn't gender specific. If you have photos that include him and friends and you can figure out what time of year it was taken base the rest of the page on that time of year.

How about a bicycle theme, using old antique bicycles (if you can find stickers and the like). Old cars, fishing, airplanes (model or real), hunting, etc. Not to sound cliché, but anything manly.

Thanks for the suggestions!

A friend of ours calls him "Jungle Jim" because his parents were missionaries and he was born and raised in the jungles of Peru. I could have a lot of fun with a jungle theme if I wanted to go that way.

I think you're right about guys appreciating sentimental albums. The guys don't say much, but they always look through my albums when I bring them to get togethers.

You've gotten some great ideas from other members, but I wanted to say that I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. :-)

I love the Jungle Jim idea. That's too cute. I made a 6x6 album for my dad of the grandkids. I titled it "Granddaddy's little brag book." He keeps it at his desk at work for everyone to see. He loved it.

Can't wait to see yours.

I don't think most men have a problem with looking at the scrapbooks and probably enjoy doing do too.

It is the creating of them scrapbooks that seem to be a problem. (Please don't take this wrong) Unless they are gay that is.

Myself I have always loved to create things with my hands. I have made furniture, I spent 10 years doing decorated cakes (with only hand made decorations) including several wedding cakes, I have made candles, I have made soap, I have done a lot of cooking, I owned and operated a Bread Machine web site for almost 10 years

which I sold in 2003). I garden, I do floral arrangements, I do scrapbooking, photography, I sew, I knit, I crochet, I do embroidery and much more. Most of the sewing, knitting and such I got from my great grandmother when I was younger. Incase you are wondering I will be 36 in September. In my family creating things was the norm, so that is what I do. Oh, I used to throw clay too. That was find, got to play in the mud and keep what I did.

NOTE: I am not saying that men that scrapbook are gay. That isn't what I meant even though the message came across like that.

I meant that you have to be a creative person (male or female) to do scrapbooking and that I don't understand why so many craft things are considered feminine.
