I used my computer to help me, so if you don't use graphics programs these instructions might not make any sense.

I took the picture with my digital camera, and I adjusted the size in Photoshop, then I imported it into a new Illustrator document. I drew the arch by combining the paths of a circle and a square. Then I could resize the arch to get it to mat the photo the way I wanted. I printed out just the arch onto cardstock, cut it out and used it as a template to cut out my the rock pattern paper. I could have also made a template for the brown border part, but I got lazy. Instead, I just traced the same template onto the brown paper and cut it out just a bit outside the line, sort of free hand with the line to guide my scissors.

I actually made a whole layout in Illustrator, drawing all the shapes so I could mess with the sizes and see how I liked it before ever cutting anything. I drew the trees in Illustrator, minus the leaves, and printed them out on the light brown cardstock and cut them out. I didn't cut precisely on the lines, because hey it's a tree and it doesn't need to be perfect, I just used the printed outline as a general guide.

If you want to see what my mock-up layout looks like, here it is:

Waiting for the page to load I had to scroll a bit but while I was waiting to see the rest of the bottom part. To me it looked very dimensional I thought he was in a play castle, not just a framed pic on a scrap page.

I love it Luna! You did a great job. I just love the castle! The fairy papers you found would definately have been too girly. I love what you did! And your nephew is just too cute!
