need help

first of all, dave, i am glad to see your back on line. hadn't seen you in awhile. as everyone knows from my silly post the other night i have my own site. i'm wanting to put together different kits for sale. what makes you actually buy a kit online. i'm thinking mostly alterable projects. nothing expensive, but a fun project. on other message boards i've seen people who want to start altering things, but have no idea what to alter, how to do it etc. could you all give me some ideas for kits: alterables or not. i'm having a brain fart. i think i'm just kinda overwhelmed and can't find a spot to start. thanks

Anji, I enjoy putting together mini albums - and they don't have to be traditional fold out albums. I see some cute ones in the magazines like papercraft, but never seem to have the time to gather all of the things I need to do them. I often buy the little kits because of the lack of time, and I feel like scrapping something that I can finish. (like the mini ones from tlc) The regular 12x12 LO's I do will never be completed as there will always be pictures. I saw a mini album that was made with the formica sample pieces like you find at the hardware store that I would like to try. The pieces were altered on one side with photo's on the back and fastened together with a piece of pull-chain. I would probably buy a kit to do something like that just to save me the time gathering the supplies. I also thing a star album would be a good kit. Lots of people I talked to wanted to try them, but the time and directions it takes to cut all of the pieces scares them off. I did a class at the LSS and had several people come because I pre-cut all of the pieces in advance. I showed them how to put it together and gave the cutting directions on a sheet of paper to take home. I know it sounds lazy, but I have signed up for classes at the LSS because I love the LO they are doing - it has lots of supplies and embellishments, and didn't attend (just picked up the kit a few days later) because I can look at the picture and make the LO myself. Just didn't want to spend the money on the items in the LO because they come in several larger packages the LSS broke down for the class, and it was all together in a kit for me to make. An altered lunch box kit with everything you need packed inside would be neat. Sandy

The ease of a kit, having all the pieces come together, that's what I like in a kit. As for ideas for you....what about altered purse tins or boxes, light switch covers, mini albums, cigar boxes, just to name a few. I hope that gives you some ideas and a jumping board for you to dive off into the creative pool! :-) You're such a creative person, and the altered items you've shared with us are fantastic. I wish you all the best in this new adventure!

The only kits that I ever bought online where the torn bears (came with paper, instruction book and little bows and hats) and several paper bag album kits. The paper bag albums came both with an album and without an album. It included 12 6x6 in themed papers and cardstocks, lots of ribbon and a couple tags. I bought them because it saved me the time of having to look around for 12 different football (etc) papers and all the ribbon plus I didn't have leftover papers that I probably wouldn't have ever used. I do like the premade paper bag albums and the recipe boxes I see on ebay.
