Hmmmm.....have no idea Marcie sorry! I would think if you sprayed it with archival mist it may be ok (but expensive) or maybe if you laminated/covered the box/album with something.

I really have no educated idea, but I'll throw in my 2 cents on what I would think. If I were making these mini albums as gifts I really wouldn't worry about whether the cardboard was acid free. It takes years for the acid to affect the pictures and how many people will even know where their mini album is in 5 years. If I were making these albums for myself to keep my own photos in perpetuity I would go for a more sure thing on the acid free album or cardboard.

Do you have one of those pens that check the acid of things. For example, not all paper bags are safe for the paperbag mini books. You just have to check each package. I just checked Captain Crunch and Crystal Light boxes - Captain Crunch was okay, but Crystal Light was not. - But I think it will be on a box by box basis as they probably have more than one supplier. What's this pen you are talking about. Never heard of that. Sounds interesting.

You can get a Ph testing pen, I know Michaels carries them and I'm sure other stores would also. On the back or in an inconspicuous place you draw a small line. If the paper is acid free it will show one color (mine is light purple) if it is acidic it will show a different color (mine is yellow). It is very easy to use, and sure beats guessing.
