OT: Chicken Pox strikes again

Exposure works for illnesses that don't end up being life-threatening, like colds and bacterial illnesses that give us the 24 hour pukes. However, illnesses like Chicken pox, diptheria, measles, whooping cough etc. are fatal in enough kids worldwide that the more vaccinated, the better. The fact that there are so many older children and adults having the "so called childhood illnesses" is because of the generation that decided that vax was evil, and so we have diseases that were NEARLY eradicated are now popping up again, and often in near epidemic portions.

let kids be kids, let them eat dirt and kiss the dog, that works for the resistance to day-to-day germs, and for allergies too, but please, folks, have your kids vaccinated.

I always love to hear from people with different opinions. Yours about this seems to be rather strong. Is there a specific reason that you are so strongly pro vaccination?

I firmly believe in medical science, and when it is doing something right, as it is with innoculation, I stand firmly behind it. I also believe that we should OUTLAW those hand sanitizer products...they do nothing but breed resistant strains that will eventually be REALLY bad to deal with.

Wanna hear me on adhesives? ROFL

I'm so sorry your daughter has the pox now! My boys got it just before the shot came out. I had mixed feeling from the getgo about the vaccine. Seems like this might be one to seriously think about and discuss with the pediatrician. Hugs to you and your poxy daughter. Good luck, my thoughts are with you/family.

I agree on the hand sanitizers... not the out law, but don't use them. Plain soap and water do what they do for the most part. Like you said... my kids have eaten dirt, kissed the dog and vice versa and I have very healthy children. Are we just from healthy stock... probably... but it can't hurt to work on the immunity too.

I don't carry purell in my purse (I don't even own any purell) and we use regular soap to wash our hands.

I'll have to check my kids' shot records for the CP vaccination. I = don't remember either of them getting it, though. The polio vaccinene = came out the year I was born. I know that, because my mom had polio = when she was 2. As soon as our family doctor had the polio vaccine in = her office, she called mom and told her to get all three of us kids in = to the office. I am so glad she did.

I could find you just as many that support vaccination. Would that convince YOU? ROFL...

I say a Hear,Hear! to that ,Marilyn. There are now so many bacteria that are resistant to drugs that it is alarming. I got MRSA when I had surgery and had to be in the hosp 14 days!! MRSA is Methicillin resistant staph aureus. It is acquired in the hosp! It was very upsetting considering the wound I had it in was my mastectomy. I think most physicians are being very cautious about prescribing meds lately. The down side of that is that many people get very frustrated if the Dr. doesn't "give them something" they think they are not being treated properly. Go figure! LOL

Lynne, boy that is the pits, with the end of school so close for her. frustrating for you too I am sure!!

It is funny that you mention shingles too. Justa few minutes ago onthe CBS nightly news they had a spot about shingles. It is more than likely to occur in older adults who had the pox. they are working on a vaccine to prevent or lesson it. Been in testing some 5 years now and over

38,000 people. I really did not know what shingles was until this newss tory so I learned something and have something NEw to fear now, especially since I have a real low pain tolerance.

As far as it not being in England that is interesing Marilyn. I do know they have it in Germany as my German friends have had it over the years, them or their kids. But maybe because ya'll British, Scottish and all are eccentic and live on a island ----

I grandmother and father both had the shingles. Now my grandmother was in a lot of pain. My dad got it on his head and the doctor said that was the most painful place to get it. My dad said it wasn't painful at all just a nuisance. So, I guess there is a chance that you can get shingles and not get pain.

Actually not even the vaccines work... I have had CP 3 times so far... some people never develop a resistance to it... which my doctor told me since I had a bad immune system to give up my dreams of being a foster mom, because having kids around all the time means I have a high chance of getting it again... but I'm gonna foster anyhow.. LOL Sometimes you just gotta trust God ya know? I was also told that I could GET CP from teh vaccine if my immunity isn't strong enough... so go figure.

I am so against vaccines, I have a few friends with autistic children who were developmentally perfect until they were vaccinated. I know myself that I'm allergic to the DPT shot... I ended up in the hospital over it. Just like keeping our houses TOO clean, vaccines can go way overboard. If I have children, my children will NOT be vaccinated for everything. A few things, yes but not all of them and they will be taken care of by ME and will be home schooled if thats what it takes to keep them from getting ADD/ADHD and autism. There are so many links out there to vaccinations and problems our children are having. You know I never had an asthma attack until 2 weeks after getting a vaccination? Asthma doesn't run in my family. Go figure. I'm not the only one either.

Now this I totally agree with. I do disagree with your overconfidence in medical science... holistic medicine has done more for my cancer than chemo ever did. But then again that is my experience.

Its illegal here! But its okay to ticket me because my seatbelt doesn't fit me and extenders are not available, and even when I have a note from my doctor and a disability statement... go figure.....

Heck my doctor got mad when I wouldn't let her prescribe something.. LOLOL but then again, I'm old school myself (and only 32.8)... LOLOLOL

Vaccines are just like anything else - for every website you find pro you will find one con. I just read a recent study in a medical journal on juvenile diabetes. They did a study and say that nursing a baby can help keep them from developing this disease. My oldest DS has JV. I am the second oldest of nine siblings and my DH is the second oldest of eight. You can imagine how many cousins that equals to. No one else in either family has JV. The dr said it could be a throwback from three or four generations back. I do genealogy - can't find it there either. But, I only nursed him for two months because of health problems. The rest of the children were nursed for at least a year.
