OT:Do you have traditions leading up to the Holidays?

I have that friend who has a one month old now and we were just talking about how to clean the baby's eye. After I told her my idea she said, "That's sneaky." And I said, "Being sneaky is a requirement for moms. Worse yet if the kids knew we brainstorm about how to be sneaky they'd have a fit."

Speaking of shows... I watched Kelsey Grammer's rendition Scrooge the other night prepared for it to be awful and I really enjoy it. I thought they did a good job.

I have a friend that started me on this game every year. I choose one person to play 12 days to Christmas. I bought 13 presents. 12 small gifts like toothbrush, toothpaste, deo, comb. Just a bunch of small stuff, depending on the person. If its a woman I may buy a serving spoon or pot holder. The 13th gift was the regular present that is opened on Christmas day, But the way it worked was when thee was 12 days til Christmas they would open one present everyday. It was so much fun. Now that I have a grandson I am waiting til he gets old enough to understand and play with me. Then after that its done. Lord to be young again.

And another thing we did was my Mom would make cookies and every Chrismas eve we all met at her house and had coffee and cookies. We did this til she got so tired then I started having a Christmas party at my house with a big meal and exchange of gifts. Finally after 12 years and bad knees I gave it all up. Now we just go to my sisters on Christmas day and have dinner and exchange gifts. It was wonderful while it lasted. I was newly married and my DH's children excepted me more by the get togethers.

We used to get new pajamas on Christmas eve too. We would always convince our mom to change us before we left Grandma's and let us ride home in them and go right to bed! LOL

Oh how sweet! I remember riding home in pajamas on occasion. We thought it was special too.

Hi Cecelia :)

We put up our X'mas tree on the 1st of December and send out the X'mas cards. On X'mas eve we have a big supper by candle light (just me and the hubby) and dress up for the occasion. It's our special thing for just the two of us. At midnight we open each other's presents. We take pictures and from this year I started making my own X'mas cards and used last years pic.

It's summer time in South Africa at X'mas time, so usually on X'mas day, the extended family get together and have a outside gathering like a barbeque after morning church.

I also love the excitement and goodwill during the season. It's always sad when it ends on Boxing day.

The kids reminded me of another Christmas tradition today. Each year I let them pick out and buy their own ornaments. One each year, which I label with their initial and the year. I started this because when I moved out of the house I didn't have any Christmas decorations. I didn't really have any money either. So, I had a tree, one string of lights and some things I made. I thought wouldn't it be nice when the kids move out on their own they had a box of their own ornaments with their own memories of them. So, I bought them a plastic container with a lid. I have them pack up their ornaments each year and keep them in their closet. Some day when they have a place of their own they'll have a Christmas starter box.

Oh... that reminded me of ours too... we give out ornaments each year with the year on it. We give them to the kids in the family too so when they grow up, they have a collection started.

We've bought the kids a special Christmas ornament since they were born. Now that they're 3 & 6, for the first time, we let them pick out the ornament. I too, put their initials and year on the ornament. My Mom also buys everybody a special ornament. At 3 & 6, they each have quite a collection started! LOL The only problem is I have a few with no initials or years. (oops!) Hopefully I can remember who they went to & when!
