OT: Where are you going for Thanksgiving

Me and the girls are headed to my Grandmothers for the day. I'll be doing the turkey, a couple of sweet potatoe pies, and some kind of salad, and a gallon or two of sweet tea. I have a Uncle and Auntie coming, and I think three cousins that I haven't seen since I was a kid, and their children. I have nieces and nephews I've never met and they're in their teens. So it should be a pretty good size gathering if everyone shows. They are coming from various cities in N.C. I'm helping my Granny with the cooking so that she doesn't have to do everything for that large a crowd. I will definitely take plenty of film.

Well, I realized sometime last week when my ceilings were collapsing that Thanksgiving wasn't going to be here this year. I claimed Thanksgiving as my holiday to treat the family about 7 years ago. I usually have about 25 to 30 people over and I make it a sit down dinner. Yes, you heard that right sit down. Instead of being all down about it I told my husband to call his family and tell them we'll have a special dinner when the construction is done. I called my folks and asked if we could move Thanksgiving up to their house. First response from my dad was "How many are coming?!" hahaha I ressured him that it would be just us hubby's family will not be coming. Then he said, "You don't even need to ask of course you can come up." I asked, "What would you say if I just showed up at your house with a turkey?" He said, "YUM!" So, that's a big relief off my mind. Now to decide what to do with Christmas. I'll wait and see how the house is coming along for that.

Very cool thread April. It's fun reading about everyone's Thanksgiving plans.

Oh, just had to add this. I was distracted earlier with DS. (don't ask...it's better that way LOL) ANyways, DH volunteered us to bring potato salad. Who has potato salad at Thanksgiving?? I at least have never had it for Thanksgiving, and I like potato salad. Poor DH..."It sounded good."

MC - does your DS's GF eat fish? My room mate is a "pescatarian," and I'm helping her with a fish recipie of mine she really likes. Let me know - I'd be happy to pass it along.

Otherwise - maybe a "tofurky?" :)

Good Luck! It can be tough to deal with people like that.

Remeber also that it's about her, not you, and it's really sad that she's such a bitter mean person. What a rough way to go through life. You're the better and happier person because you're friendly and caring. :)

Several years ago we started staying home for Thanksgiving. As the kids grew up and moved out they still come home for Thanksgiving. This year my DH and I will have all five children (plus spouses) and six of the grandchildren here. One of the grandsons lives in SC with his mother and this will be the first time in five years he won't be here for Thanksgiving. (At least we will see him on Christmas for the first time - visitation has changed as he is older). After Thanksgiving dinner we lay around the rest of the afternoon, then take the little ones to the Shrine Circus. The circus tradition started when I was a child and I think I've only missed it maybe five times since then. If it wasn't for the grandchildren.............. Sandy in Southern Indiana

Thanksgiving every year is at my moms house. Last year was her first being married to my step-dad. Last year my stepdads family all came along along with my brothers and our families. This year only my stepgrandparents and 1 step-brother will be there...besides my 2 brothers (one is bringing his girlfriend), my nephew, and my family. I'm thinking this is going to be a much better thanksgiving then last year....I'm actually looking forward to it.

The best part is my mom makes the traditional Thanksgiving food she made for us growing up so that we will always have our "typical" food while my stepfather makes his traditional meal for his family. Talk about leftovers!!!

This year we are all having Thanksgiving dinner at our daughters. My other daughter and her husband alternate being here Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year we will miss them at Christmas but enjoy them now. My daughter that is having the dinner is in the restaurant business and rarely gets off for Thanksgiving. She loves to cook and try different receipes so we may have some surprises mixed in with the traditionals. Peggy in NJ

We will go to my daughters. She has a bigger house with a hugh kitchen so all our dinners are there.I would much rather be in North Carolina with my son and his family but the trip just didn't work out. He is home from Iraq for 2 weeks actually goes back on Thanksgiving Day. Lin

No where. I volunteered to work a half day Thanksgiving day. Then I'll prolly just go to the Golden Coral or someplace like that for dinner. The holidays are going to be pretty crappy around here this year.

On Thansgiving we are going to my brother-in-law's for lunch around 11:00, for turkey and all the fixins'. We live about 20 minutes from him so it is very close. So far I am supposed to make the gravy (because no one there knows how), and don't know what else they want me to bring....maybe some deviled eggs as well. Over there it will be our family of 4, and about 15 others.

On the Friday after Thanksgiving we are getting together at my sister's house (also about 20 minutes away) where we will celebrate with my side of the family around 1:00. I am supposed to bring a sweet potato casserole, and the cranberry sauce. Any one have a good recipe for a sweet potato casserole ???? ....E-Mail me at amy_scottatcoxdotnet. We did this so it would be a lot easier than trying to have to big meals on one day.

I guess I had better chime in even thogh ya'll know where I am going. In fact I believe the real reason that April and her family came down two weeks ago was to give me a PERSONAL warning and option to come!! It was

- to fix her bird and teach her how!!! Her dh loves bird and wants one at home - LOL!!!

Anyhow we are planning a big day,do't know all who is gonna be there, but am looking forward to it, even shopping for all the trimmins on Tuesday!!!

FINALLY, I WANT A SWEET TATA CASSEROLE RECIPE TOO!! I absoltely love and would die for the one that Furr's has. Yummy!!!!!!

I'll be at my in-laws...DH's sister and husband and daughters age 19 and 23 will be there...we'll eat around 1:00...then I have to leave to drive about and hour to sing for the lighting of the tree in Lawrenceville GA...our band does this every year...this year Jeremy's former drum teacher will be playing with us, so the whole family will join me. It does get me into the holiday spirit to sing "Here comes Santa Claus" about 47 times as we wait for Santa to make his appearance...last year he was delayed so we went on and on...this year I think I'll learn how to sing it in at least 7 languages to keep things interesting...
