startin stampin

I am thinking about getting into stamping, something I have never done before. I need a good site to teach me about inks and embossing powders and so on. I would also like to know what would be my best starting purchases. Which types of stamps are better, I will only use them on LOs as I dont make cards. Thanks. For such a long time scrapper you'd think Id have a clue!! lol

I don't make cards either but do have a sizeable rubber stamp collection... all for scrapbooking. I'm dying to have something I've only ever tried. It's called a "Stampin Scrub" and it is available through Stampin Up! It makes cleaning your rubber stamps so easy to clean. It's $14.95 and I'll be making that purchase very, very soon.

Good luck!

Hello Tammie,

I use mostly alphabet stamps on my scrapbook pages - I have collected quite a few. I use both rubber stamps and foam stamps - you can apply acrylic paints instead of ink onto foam stamps. Ornamental stamps are also useful - flowers, paisley patterns, basic shapes...

Have fun!

Oh I'm so glad we could enable you into stamping. LOL You know, enabling is what we do best around here. I'm not sure about websites, as I'm such a hands-on learner. IMO, your best starting purchases would be good inks, good stamp cleaner, a good stamp scrubber (I'm with Melissa on the SU one...I used to have a cheapy one from Michaels or HL, but once I used the SU one, the cheapy one got tossed), and either an alphabet stamp set, or a couple decorative background-type sets. That gives you a basic start. For embossing, you'll need embossing powder, a heat tool, and a Versamark pad. You can also heat emboss using pigment based inks and embossing powder...really cool if you use a colored pigment ink and clear embossing powder. I do a lot of stamping in my scrapping, especially with alphabets or stamping my own backgrounds. I prefer the wood mounted stamps, but that's my personal opinion.

A book you might look at is "Creative Stamping for Scrapbokers". It's got step by step project and techniques for stamping on LOs.

Hope that gives you a good start!

IMO the best stamps are unmounted rubber dies and you stamp using them on an acrylic block. There are several systems for mounting to stamp...EZ mount, Halos or just use a glue stick. Personally, I have done all mine with Aleene's RePosition-It glue drizzled on the back....leave until glue goes clear and then stick to a page protector and store in a ring binder.
