Overwhelmed!!

Hello,

I just recently got married and I wanted to make a scrapbook of the day to have as a keepsake. Although I have never really done this on my own before I am extremely motivated to try. I have so many pictures and other things to include but have no idea where to start. Any sugesstions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Don't be overwhelmed...it can seem daunting but it is really not hard. Start with a few basic supplies and your photos and your on your way!!!!! Under the Meet Us link you can use the June 2006 Roll Call link to bring up a members list that contains links most of our galleries. Many of us use Webshots but there are loads of others free photo-sharring accounts. Browsing our gallieries will give you some ideas and inspiration for the look you want to achieve. Everybody has a particular style so have a good look around.

I have a Wedding Album on Webshots (link in my signature below) and I have chosen to stick to a more traditional look but your album can be whatever you want it to be. The main thing to remember is to ensure that the products (albums, cardstock, paper, adhesives) you buy are acid & lignin free. HTH

Welcome to the group Ros. Don't be overwhelmed, start slow and most of all have fun. Pick some papers and embellishments you like and just play around with laying them out on a page. If you don't like the way things look, switch them around and try something else. When you get the page looking the way you want, glue everything down. Just remember to use acid free paper, embellishments and adhesive. We are here to lend a helping hand and lots of support. We are pretty good at enabling too! I have some wedding pages in my Yahoo photo albums if you want some ideas. Have fun!

Welcome to RCS Ros. I did my Wedding album a few years ago. I jut used my favorite color (it was a small ceremony with no theme). And chose things I liked for the album. Sorry can't help more.

Ros,

Welcome to the wonderful world of scrapbooking. Do not feel overwhelmed it's supposed to be "fun." The suggestions to lay out your page first before doing any gluing is kind of essential. First I'd like to say that I think a wedding album is a great place to start because if your wedding was traditional "American" you already have your various themes... the dress, the cake, the bridesmaids, the garter etc... so those pictures are easy to group and know each grouping goes together.

You can get supplies as local scrapbook stores (we refer to them here as LSS), Walmart, Michaels, Joanns Fabric, Target etc... just call around if you're unsure.

and click on the link Scrapbooking 101 you should find the topics very useful.

Remember, it takes a long time to plan a wedding, and a lifetime to create a wonderful marriage and strong family. There is no reason to feel pressured or rushed to get your scrapbook done. Mark on your calendar 1 day each week where you will commit to doing a single page or 2-page spread (2pages that will rest side by side in your book)... start at the beginning... If you have engagement pictures maybe start there. If you don't, perhaps you have rehearsal dinner pictures, etc. If you move through your book chronologically you will end up with a book that flows. If however you say "I want to do the pages with the cake today" it is possible that when you are done you'll have blank pages in between covered pages.

And lastly, remember that what makes the book special are the memories that lie within, not how the book "looks."

Best wishes for your new scrapbook and your wonderful new life with your husband.

Well it's nothing next to Marilyns album, but I do thank you... I like it and the bride loved it and that's all that matters.

Melissa...your album is beautiful and unique treasure created from your photographs/memories & impressions of your friend's wedding. My album was created some 35 years after the event, using the formal photographs from the day, plus the addition of some modern staged photos and some artistic license. Our albums are different in style but like you...I am happy with the finished results and that is what scrapbooking is about....recording precious memories! TFS :o)

Hi Ros,

I'd suggest finding a local Scrapbook store and signing up for their beginner class. Not only will it be fun, but it will open your eyes to what you can do for your album. Plus there is normally a very nice creative teacher to ask questions of.

Nice album, Melissa. I've already sketched a couple of the pages for both my DD's albums. One of these days........ Sandy

Hey Ros! Welcome to RCS. I did an album of my house being constructed. I had almost 300 photos to scrap...YIKES! Here are two things I did to make the project more manageable....

  1. I created 3 background papers that I could carry through out the entire album. That way I didn't feel like I had to be creative from a blank sheet of paper on every LO. I used accents/embellishments to jazz up the pages.
  2. I organized the photos into related topics...foundation, framing, drywall, kitchen. This was basically chronological order but it gave me some main themes with which to work. I chose a single picture to keep at the 4x6 size. The others I reduced to 2x3 and merged them into one picture. Then I only had to pay for 73 pictures to be printed instead of 300. It cut the cost to a manageable amount.

Take a look in the "Our House" album in

Welcome to RCS Ros! I can't share my wedding album with you because I've never started it. LOL (I have ideas, just want to get all the right colors first, etc.) Anyways, I would suggest following Lynne's advice on a beginner's class at an LSS. They'll be able to help you get on the right track. I would also suggest sorting your pics. When I have a ton of pics to put in one album, I'll sort them first. Sometimes, I can picture them on the LO and I'll sort them that way. But even semi-sorting your pics will help. Good luck, and hopefully you'll be able to share your layouts with us once you're done!

Welcome Ros!!! I have no great ideas because like Deb, I haven't even started my wedding album. I must say I really like Amy's idea. It really created a great album for her.
