Very OT: Ladies only

Ok, ladies, a while back I wrote that I was having my thyroid tested because I wasn't regular. I have had a total of 3 visits with the first showing my TSH levels were a little off, and the other 2 showing them as normal. Well, in between my 2nd and 3rd visits (4 months), I have not had a cycle. The endocrinologist is not terribly concerned since my levels are fine but I am because I know I'm not pregnant. I' ve been on and off of BC pills since I was 17. It took a few months to get preg with DD after getting off the pill. I stopped the pills April 2002 and we have been trying since then but with no luck. It was Jan of this year I went without 2 cycles and then came back until June and I haven't had one since.

Anyone have any recommendations? I guess I should have GYN do some tests? I hate not knowing since I'm not used to this - although it has been nice to not worry about it, if you know what I mean!

I would really have anyone and everyone do tests.. When it comes to such things.. you just cant leave it un attended.. I would make appointments all over.. and see what several say.. could it be mentapause?

I don't know - I'm only 30 and I don't think my family has a history of early menopause.

I had the same thing happen to me and it took 6 years to get pregnant after my first son. I was first diagnosed with a low thyroid and later with PCOS. After my second child I was told my thyroid was normal and nothing about the PCOS. I got pregnant again and had my 3rd child. I would ask to get Progesterone to help you get your cycle back and there is another drug that starts with a C if you want to really ovulate. There is a website for PCOS where you can get some info. I haven't been there in a while. PCOS is Policystic Ovarian Syndrome. Good luck and when you least expect you will get pregnant again. It happened to me.

Thanks for the input. I'll start researching that so one I go to the dr I can ask about it if he/she doesn't bring it up. BTW, I am in the middle of looking for a different GYN and preferably one who delivers. A lot of the GYN's in our town don't deliver because of insurance. But if I don't get pregnant, then I don't need an OB/GYN, do I?

Definitely talk to your Gyn, they can tell you what should or needs to be done.

I have the same problems. Mine is partly because of my thyroid, but mostly because of reduce estrogen levels. I was placed on birth control pills to regulate my cycles, but other than that, it's just wait until menopause (I'm

41). I've been going through this for 20 years now, so I understand what you are going through. Your GYN may want to take your hormone levels and prescribe a low dosage BC pill to regulate.

I think there something called a reproductive endocronologist. You might want to try one of them. I would probably go with the one that delivers so that you can have a relationship established once you are pregnant.

Do you exercise? I noticed everytime I exercised it would become regular again. Then when I would slack off I wouldn't get it anymore. Anyways good luck and yes b/c pills get you regular but then you won't be able to get pregnant.

Are you very thin? I heard that if a woman's body fat isn't at a certain level, you will not have a period. ckk

I weigh 155 and I'm 5'9''. Most people think I am thin because my legs and arms are skinnier than my middle but I wear a size 11/12 for my waist even though my butt and legs would probably fit into a size 9/10.

Lori D, I forgot to mention that I had a LEEP procedure done in 1996 and when I got preg in 1998, the dr did a cerclage (stitched up my cervix like a drawstring) so I wouldn't risk dilating too early and delivering prematurely. I was put on bed rest after 4 months so I stayed home and did light housework. When I visited a new OB/GYN last year, he said he didn't think I needed a cerclage because I still had a good part of my cervix. He told me the other dr (who no longer delivers and has also lost delivering privileges at some hospitals) has a high frequency of cerclages. So maybe it was necessary and maybe it wasn't.

I will make some phone calls to find a new OB/GYN that has experience with these sorts of things and will be caring and concerned ( not just blow me off).

THANKS A MILLION AGAIN, LADIES.

I had LEEP done after my first and then had two more children with no problems. It is my understanding that the cervix grows back.
