a find, but $$ out of my league

I jetted into my local Salvation Army store looking for nightstands, when I spotted a sewing case sitting on the counter....it was reduced to $99, and when I lifted the lid, I almost cried. It was a beautiful antique Singer..sorry, didn't get the model info because I was afraid that if I looked at it too long, I would do something that would lead to regret when DH gets back from his work trip.

At least I know that they get them every now and them, maybe it will be there at the end of the month.

Sending positive thoughts your way so that you will not only get it at the end of the month, but at a discount because no one else will buy it!

I agree that the price is too high for a machine in unknown condition. I get them here (SF Bay Area) for $20-50. If you can get the serial number (on a plate on the right side under the stitch control lever) maybe we can figure out what kind of machine it is and when it was made.

Thanks for all the positive thoughts and suggestions on how I could get the price lowered and where to find the serial number and such...they are greatly appreciated, particularly sine I *really* want this machine!

Maybe, if I can get this one into my greedy little hands, it will be the extra push to get the 4-season/guest/sewing room built off the basement....lol

That's a good thougt, Cea.....the manager knows me becuase of my semi-regular donations..and the fact that she sometimes has to help me because I can't get the pregnant body to pick up heavy things . AND...she knows my Mother from her daily visits (when she is visiting me).

The serial number is generally on the right side in the front on a little plate underneath the stitch length adjuster.

How to get the price lowered depends on the store. The thrift stores here have signs that they don't haggle and won't even sell things that don't have prices marked on them.

Make sure someone knows you are drooling -- if it's still there at the end of the month, they might think it isn't going to sell, and trash it.

OTOH, if they know you are drooling too much, they won't want to drop the price.
