A muslin I'll be able to wear

Last year I swore off making any woven tops. Primarily because I always have to do so much in the way of alterations. I had a piece of fabric that was given to me by someone who was reducing her stash. I found a Simplicity tunic pattern 1461, view D, it is made for those of us who have to do major FBA's So I pin fitted the paper pattern and it looked good. I measured lots of parts and decided it will fit well but might need some tweeks. Started on the muslin, thinking I could have my knitting instructor check it out for me when I see her in July. She's good at fitting. The entire project is working out well and I'm so happy. I decided to finish it up as a wearable. I'm not going to put up any pictures now. This one is just for hanging out not for show. I'll post when I find a fabric I love. Life is good. Juno

Congratulations Juno! I love it when I can get a nice basic pattern tweaked to fit me (or one of my DDs). Then I can make multiple garments, just changing a few details, and I don't have to worry each time about fit.

it makes sew a lot more fun. I'm also concentrating on doing a better job pressing. That also adds to my feeling of things going well.

When I was teaching DGD to sew, at the outset I told her that good pressing *as you go* accounts for about 90% of the result. That is why I refuse to have an auto-shut-off iron. I press every seam allowance, dart, hem, etc. immediately after stitching it, and I'm not willing to wait for my iron to re-heat each time I need it. My mother was a bear about pressing.

She has one on pressing and give a good explanation of why good pressing is so important. She also give a demonstration on how she presses.Make sense to me and the results are great. She also has some really gorgeous fabrics.
