This is a bit off-topic but I have to ask. The walking foot you mentioned. My machine came with one and so far I have not opened the package. The foot is over a year old now. What am I missing? I thought this little gem was mainly for quilting.
A gem it is 9indeed, but as a quilter I have to say I have used BOTH my walking feet for more than quilting! And more often on NON quilting projects!
I use it for sewing velvet (stops the pile creeping so much), for keeping checks lined up, for Polar Fleece, slippery fabrics, multi-layered things, and many other applications. For quilting it's fine for straight line and pre-set wiggles, but no use for free-motion or McTavishing. For those you need a spring foot or darning foot and lowered feed dogs.
For the final (after 23-1/2 years) contra dance in a series held at a museum in a hall specifically designed for this sort of dancing, I made me a T-shirt with images and phrases from the previous years and often-read quotes from the dance book used there. You can enjoy it here:

Would it be possible to hang the skirt on a rotating hanger in a position that you can bring the section you're sewing under the needle while the rest is supported? Just put a hook in the ceiling, hang a string with a loop for the skirt hanger so it can swivel... Liz (Oh, and welcome to one of the nicest groups on usenet)
Thats an idea with some interesting possibilities, I am definately going to have to give it a try. Its got me thinking now - hmm hang jackets and work hem line trimmings at seated eye level, beading - definately going to have to have a play
Thanks Liz
