Do you find that using a dress form helps you with fitting the outfits you make? I have the worst time trying to fit garments on myself. It seems I spend a lot of time half naked when I'm sewing, fitting and refitting over and over. Or totally exhausted from putting on and taking off my clothes repeatedly! Miriam
Ok, seriously, I don't have a form, but after my DH died I have seriously considered getting one in order to be able to mark hems. So far my DDs have been available when I asked, but eventually I will probably get a good form.
Some years ago I owned a dress form and never used it, so sold it at a garage sale. When DH was alive he was fabulous and did all my fittings, but now I don't have anyone to do the honours as none of my friends are dressmakers, they don't even sew on buttons as they fall off, so I take measurements from a similar garment that is the correct length. I don't make dresses these days because I never wear them, in fact don't even own a dress, so a dress form wouldn't be of any help with slacks/jeans.
A dress form takes up lots of space, but If I'm sewing/fitting/sewing lots then I wear a dressing gown as it's easier to change than several items of clothing. That's what works for me!
??? Click "dress forms" then "fitting system"...looks to me like there are plenty of options. But you could probably add "falsies" if needed. Or order the form which comes with one set of filler pads, and also order a second set? ;->
Well, I thought I had read the customizing instructions there and read that there were no bust pads, only hip, abdomen, and derriere pads. But I will go back and look again in the middle of the day when my eyes aren't so tired.
" Step #2: Roll the side seam cover down to just below the bust line. Slip the bust pads under the cover as needed (low bust, high bust etc.). ^^^^^^^^^^^^ The bust pads allows you to adjust the horizontal and vertical ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ measurements as well as the shape of the form to match yours. You will be able to match shapes, from low bust lines to up-lifts."
I haven't seen one on which the bust point can be lowered. Usually, on the most adjustable, you can alter circumference at waist, bust, hip and neck, and alter the back/waist length. With chest alterations you get a neck alteration.
I have 5, all of different makes: each has their own drawbacks and advantages.
