Just a slow day, methinks.

Well, okay, but only because they're playing the Cards....

Tradition Field, which is the Mets Florida Stadium, is right down the road from my house. If they win, St. Lucie West Blvd. will be impassable the next time they're in town.

But, WOW, will it be good for Port St. Lucie's weak economy.

And now that they lost, the boulevard is full of people drowning their sorrows?

Boo hiss. I need a drink.

I'm here, reading as usual, but dh and I spent most of the day over at church getting ready for our HUGE rummage sale Saturday. Plus, there have been lots of meetings of our local neighborhood association (of which I am secretary this year) to do with lots and lots of post-Katrina planning. All the developers are salivating at the thought of the work which is potentially out there, and we have to make sure it is what WE want, not what will bring them the most profit. Plus, I got roped in by our parish secretary to knit caps and scarves for Seamen in my spare time!!! I take my knitting to meetings. Embroidery? What's that? Some occupation for ladies of leisure, perhaps??

I am finishing the stitching instructions for a beginner's sampler temari. It is for a class I am giving Tues. October 24 at our LNS. The class is full and I had to actually make room for one more. I have developed a demo prop to use and have taken umpteen photos to be captioned. I still have to have it all printed by class time. Under a tight deadline, but should be ok if no unexpected incidents befall me. Bobbie V.

LOL - DH took the day off - keeping me company on my birthday... We just were checking mail, and his quote "It's a slow day on RCTN - that's fine. I guess everyone's shopping."

FWIW - the nice guy is actually going with me to the Scarlet Thread, so I can get some 36 ct to do the Sweet Potato Vine from Merrey Designs. I found the perfect hand-dye at the Hang-Up in Sterling - but it's 32 ct, and, well, this thing is big enough on 36 - so off on the quest. And he even mentioned something about stopping at the yarn store ,,,tee hee - although now he says "I did - ....no....ummmm.... I just said ....handi-crafts???" But, I distinctly remember "stitchie and yarn stores" in his offer - and he's even going to drive. OF course, my favorite LKS is in the same town as the Scarlet Thread (Uniquities) - Vienna, VA - so, well, it's not a big deal.

Well, off to do something somewhat celebratory...S.E.X. with the DH along, hmmmm.

Happy stitchin' all - ellice

Thank you all for the happy birthday virtual serenade!

We had a lovely S.E.X. Experience at the Scarlet Thread, and I got some really nice hand-dyed linen for the Sweet Potato Vine, and a b-day trinket surprise from the owners - a bookmark and some lovely 6-Strand Sweets. Oh, and we just had to get 2 of the Jewel Bug charts (hey, they're on sale)....I know that at least 1 is heading to Cheryl.....

PS - The very DH did very well with the lovely necklace for B-day - it's all swirls of gold with little colored gemstones scattered about - I already told him - no Chanukah presents of any scale - only trinkets - after this splurge!

Thanks so much - it was really nice. And dinner was a hoot. We went to a restaurant in Leesburg, VA - very lovely - kind of casual dressy - though it always freaks me out when 2/3 of the people are nicely dressed (not coats and ties, but close) and then there are the jeans crowds. But, this is part of VA horse country, so. The restaurant has a bar/pub area - separate

- and downstairs a very casual sandwhich/coffee/bakery stop (counter & takeout). Evidently, someone had been put at our lovely reserved corner table in the main dining room, and as we didn't want to sit by the kitchen passage we were happy to move to the rear garden room - by a window - very nice. However .... The table just adjacent - over DH's shoulder - had 6 people - evidently an older couple (mid- 60s), a woman that looked about 30 from the rear and was likely about 60 (with a stretched face-lift, really straw like bleached out hair, and the obligatory leopard print stretch top to go with her enormous Chanel bag), her husband (we think) and a couple in their mid-early 30s. The blonde - she was tanked. Really tanked. The other older woman was her sister - who wasn't quite as tanked - but sounded like she either came from munchkin land or was inhaling helium. The young couple, and older gent were fine - and the other guy - well, we realized that when he spoke he was quite slurred, and DH thought he was going to break his neck between the head flopping back to stare at the lights, and then flopping forward into the table. The "blonde" was shrieking, arms waving, telling tales - and sadly - they weren't even funny. Finely - at least twice - when all the tables around turned to look - the older guy and the young guy did the stage whisper "SHHHHHH" . We figured out it was the older woman's birthday, and the young couple - her son. We actually waited on our main courses - hoping for some final slight quiet. But, they kept on going. When the finally left - the entire room started laughing - after the big sighs. I don't understand how people have no concept of being inside, let alone at a restaurant. This woman was really way, way, out of line. Plus, our waitress disappeared for a long time (45-50 min) and when dinner came it was great - except for a cold veg which they immediately took back and replaced. The nice manager came over, and apologized profusely - we were nice - it's one of our favorite places - and we got lovely free desserts, and a box of handmade chocolate truffles to take home. The loud people staggered out while we were eating our main course - almost done - and the waitress stopped by. So, we said something - as she was apologizing for the whole situation. We laughed, but also said we were surprised that no one from the restaurant management had suggested that they might keep it down a little. I didn't want DH to say anything - though he was actually working on it - as I had the feeling that we'd then end up with some really stupid drunk guy yelling & swinging. The waitress said the 2 older couples had been in the pub in the afternoon, and then worked their way into the garden dining room about 6 - and had been there all night. The young ones had only come in around 7:30, so were not so drunk. Poor waitress - didn't get to turn her station at all.

But, all in all it was a lovely night, and we laughed, and drank an entire bottle of some nice Pomerol. Which was proceeded by really tasty Mango Mojitos. So, we had to take our time with dinner to be in a good way for the drive home.

Well, got to run - my niece from Boca who is now going to law school in Syracuse (we laugh a lot) is in town this weekend and we're going to take her to dim sum, and to come see the messy new house. Then, hockey tonight. Quite the weekend. All we're doing is eating it seems.
