Bobbin thread problem

I recently bought a used Singer Touch tronic 2001 sewing machine. Not all of the time but some of the time the thread on the bobbin side of the material seems to get bunched-up. The only adjustment seems to be the needle thread tension. Any help on how to solve this problem? The manual doesn't really address it. TIA John B

I don't know is that's one of the infamous dodgy Singers but this is a generic solution to the problem.

Thread bunching up under the fabric means that there's not enough tension on the needle thread.

Unthread the machine and "floss" between the tension disks using a piece of soft fabric. Then re-thread, making sure that the presser foot is up and that the thread lies between the tension disks.

Finally, make sure that the presser foot is down before you start to sew. There's no tension on the needle thread if the presser foot is raised.

Also make sure the bobbin area is free of lint after each project. I have a Jamome sewing machine (different machine I know) but I notice that if my bobbin breaks most of the time its because of the built up lint I forgot to remove.

Hope that helps a bit Tammy

I had a 2001 which was still working fine when I traded it for a newer machine. The only problem I had was with the rubber feed dogs, which I replaced, and now I understand there are metal ones available. Thread barf in the bobbin is caused by a needle tension lack. Sally gives good advice. ;-) Thread the machine with the presser foot _UP_, then lower it to sew. The thing is that when the foot is down, there is pressure on the tension disks and the thread doesn't get into where it belongs, hence no tension. Since it is a teensy pin that does this, check to see that the tension disks are "loose" when the foot is up. If they are snug, the pin is stuck.
