Bums!

Me iron has died. Buggrit!

Need new tank irone. *NOT* going back to 'normal' steam irons. Not no way, nohow. No. Geddit? Good.

Can't afford a Polti yet.

The one that does was an el cheapo job from Aldi, made by/for Delta, and it cost the princely sum of £38! It did 3 years slave labour, sometimes being under pressure for as long as 15 hours in a day, so I can't complain. I really need another just like it as a stop-gap, until a few of these big projects pay off.

Ideally:

Stainless steel sole plate Large tank capacity High steam output Variable steam output from zero up Good non-steam work too...

I know it's like buying a sewing machine, and you get what you pay for, but this really is a stop-gap while I save up.

Help? Need to be able to get it here in the UK. I'm off to have a look for cheap steam generator irons!

Just FYI, we use our steam iron system here 5 days a week, 8 hours a day and it has been running for 6 years now. If it breaks down, we send it back and they fix it for us. Not cheap, but for this kind of longevity, I KNOW it is worth it. I have the same unit at home - purchased at the same time as our "work" one and it has never needed service - of course I don't get to use it as much as I want to! Here's the link to read more about it. I imagine they'll ship to UK (the company is in USA).

Hi Kate, since our frantic frocking I#m seriously contemplating steam generator. Have you got one already? I read on the German household ng that this one:

't too bad and they've got it this week at our local Ratio store (shop for retailers), or one similar to it, for EUR 29.99 plus 19% tax. I think I'll get that one and if you want one, too, I could get it and ship it. Just holler. ;-) U.

I just looked and it's the DSB 3278 that's on offer. No idea where the difference is.

You'e a darling for offering, but I replaced it already. I LOVE the new one, despite it being PINK! Go more than 3 days without a working iron> Does not compute... And Himself hated the cheapo ones we have for kids to use/GMNT to take to camp.

I got this one:

making it any more, but spares available and it retailed at £148.50 I got mine from this place:

I paid £48 for mine. Not in original box, but perfect and a third of the original price! They sell a lot of returned goods (i.e. nowt wrong with them, but returned by customers who didn't want one after all, or ex display models and stuff like that).

Looks very good, and it seems you got the last one. ;-) I bought two of the ones from the link above; one for me and one for my mom, as a x-mas/birthday present (hers is on 26 December). She does all the ironing for me (not much, the occasional blouse and shirt, a couple of hankies and tea towels), plus her own, and uses a steam iron with not the best results. I thought that if the steam generator works, fine, I might even return to do my ironing myself and give her a break; and her work will be much easier. After all her DH wears shirts all the time which have to be ironed. And the thing has a steam brush, which looked like just the thing you recommended for dress and jacket. And if it's crap or I can't get used to the priciple, fine, no real loss.

A friend has a steam generator from Vorwerk and claims that this halves the time she needs for ironing. That precious gem is no longer made, but it was on sale for about 1000.- EUR. She got it - a lot cheaper - via her DSIL who works with that company. They make really durable vacuum cleaners and other high end stuff, but you get the bags only from their salespeople who come and visit. The little darlings must be really good, I didn't find a single one on Ebay. Anyway, the dress will go out for a final ironing/steaming nonetheless, since I don't want to mess it up. ;-)

U.

Oh, it'll be fine. :) Once converted, you'll never go back!

As said elsewhere, I do that too at times... :)
