CNY stitcher

I don't care who baggs me but could you please mark your non sewing conversations as OT. Not every one needs to know / read such a graphic account of your pregnancy, perhaps a newsgroup on pregnancy would be a better place to discuses what is happening with you. Good luck for the birth....Amelia

Anyone reading the post could see how distressed CNY stitcher was. Yes, it was OT but you didn't have to read it (it's a bit like people complaining about TV programs - you don't have to watch them). It wasn't a troll - just someone calling out for help from a group of people she has been exchanging info with over a while. The number of replies shows that in this instance people weren't too fussed that the post wasn't marked OT.

I've gotten into the habit of observing which topics have been initiated by CNY stitcher and then just passing them by. Killfiling wouldn't help because her posts always provoke scads of responses from all the goodhearted folks on alt.sewing, rec.crafts.textiles.sewing, and rec.crafts.textiles.quilting. If you only read this group, consider yourself lucky.

Iris (not goodhearted, I guess, and don't care who baggs me either!)

Larissa and anyone else who is pregnant, keep the news coming, I may be in the minority but I love news and updates. Again, if you don't want to read a posting then just ignore them. Some of us consider people on the newsgroups as extended friends and family. :-)'

Well excuse me - I guess it just SEEMS as though your posts are everywhere. All the time. According to Google, 1330 since you assumed your current ID. So much for wasting time. I long ago quit wasting MY time reading every gory detail about the soap opera that is your life. But if others want to read about it, and don't mind your apparent need to have your hand held constantly, then more power to them.

Weeelllll....if it's the same post I'm thinking of, the subject line was "I want to cry." I read it expecting something like "I was serging $300 worth of silk for my dance costume and I accidentally flipped up a piece of it under the blades and it's _ruined_!!!" Not more worries about the Impending Doom. (Count me among those who don't want to hear about pregnancies--I am forced to listen to enough of that at work. :P)

So yeah, I didn't have to read it, but if it had been (appropriately) marked OT, I would have known ahead of time not to.

Note to Iris: my newsreader has this really neat "delete thread" option that has been getting a lot of exercise lately. You might see if yours has the same. It really cuts down teh tripe.

Mine doesn't :( Which newsreader do you use? I have to filter each thread individually and that gets tedious.

NNNooooooooo! I can deal with one or two but please, do not 'keep 'em comming.' If you need help, support, prayers, there are newsgroups for that. Please use them. A good example is the recent "what do people who are getting a divorce do..." Really, now!

As to reading a post is like watching TV, well until you read part of a post one has no idea what it is about and by then it's usually too late. At least with TV, once you turn to another channel, and that's it. That 'old' show you tried to get rid of doesn't keep coming back, and with other subject lines. Some of us have enough of a crazy life as it is and don't really care to read details about the pregnancies, divorces, health issues, or weight problems here. We just want to talk about sewing.

That's just what happens here...the posts come back in various reincarnaitons and go on and on.

One of the things that gets forgotten is that this is a "Newsgroup" unfettered by moderators. You guys should have been here 15-20 years go. It was really wild and outrageous. There is no way to stop any post from anybody except with our personal computers delete button or kill file. As with anything on Newsgroups, take what you want and kill the rest. I think there are Faqs for most newsgroups stating the rules and regs as seen by the majority of posters. However, there is no way to controll what is posted. That is why the Newsgroups exist. We can and do say anything. To say this group is nasty is to not have really experienced the 'Newsgroup' mentality. This group is very tame and polite. On the other hand I do agree that thispregnant person is in need of professional help, not us. She needs support of the warm physical type to get through this. 1330 posts in the same vein denotes a tragic psychological problem that we should not be trying to analyse here. If anything horrendous happend because of statements given in this group and others we would all be responsible. To the poster, get professional help, you are obiously in dire need and your child has no choice. Depression is real, it is treatable, and your child deserves better than a computer newsgroups opinions. So to keep this on topic, About that $300/yd fabric and the serger-----been there done that, got the t-shirt and the crotchless pants to prove it. AND it was a contract job.

Never saw that thread. Was it here? If so, maybe it was spam and my news server deleted it before I got it.

Hey, I don't have a problem with CNY's posts - never did. I just skip'em. Isn't that what I said (several times)?
