Converting patterns for stretch fabric

Jul 12, 2003 1 Replies

I have a dress pattern that has the skirt cut on the bias. I want to make the dress in stretch fabric but have never heard of cutting stretch on the bias. Can anybody advise me on whether I should be cutting the skirt on the straight or bias?

thanks Jen

Use the straight of goods on the stretch fabric, but be sure it's a two-way stretch, not a four-way stretch fabric, or it will bag all over the place. I would also only use a moderately stretch fabric, nothing super-supple, as the pattern isn't designed for this.
