Jean-Paul for king

Hi ladies

Before I toddle off to bed, I just thought I'd mention Jean-Paul Gaultier's latest collection. I just saw it on Paris Première, which I'd taped from Friday night, as part of Paris Haute Couture week.

It's the most avant-garde collection I've seen in a long time. Amazing objects, such as a jacket that wraps round the body to become a skirt, which wraps round again to become tights. 'Bodies', cut like a second skin, but in materials such as the finest leather, lace, velvet and beading. Astonishing both in design and workmanship.

I do hope this collection is reported decently in the press, as it would be easy to caricature it, with its big shoes and casquettes. But it's pushing forward the boundaries of design in a way which is fascinating. The clothes were also incredibly beautiful, especially in movement. I only wish I could conceptualise design in this manner. Definitely the most impressive collection from Paris this season.

:) Trish

Not many pix in the papers here in the UK, and I didn't catch anything on TV, but there was a profile of the embroidery company fella in last weeks Sunday Review in The Independent - fabulous workmanship!

Yes, that's the place!

I'm not surprised at the secrecy - they do a lot of exclusive work, and stealing ideas in the fashion industry is as much a matter of industrial espionage as it can be in the computer or defence industries!
