Sofia, I am sure that you two had lots to talk about, It is fun to meet in person, I have met Darleen and Eimear, who is in Ireland at the moment. As a matter of fact Eimear and I now belong to the same Guild. Both women I met over lunch, and that is fun as well. We have made many good friends here and everyone is always very supportive...LOL, in person or cyber space. Maybe next time you will meet Ria, I know she lives a very busy life.

OK indulge me what language did you two speak or did you do a mix and match....

That is so funny. You know you are the second person that asks me that? You know we both speak English, and then I can speak French to her, she understands but doesn't speak but she can tell me things in Dutch and I'll understand but will not answer. So, we mainly spoke English with a bit of French and Dutch here and there :-) Nice combination isn't it ?? When there's a will........ You are right about meeting Ria, it would have been nice. I think they were meeting today. I wonder how it went, now I'm curious :-) I agree with you, it is fun to be here .. Sofia D

PS- Hey Els, did you get my message? "Els van Dam" a écrit dans le message de news: jazzcobra-2206061154310001@192.168.1.100...

Yes and I bet you did get mine as well...LOL. Here I thought Dutch instead of French, but You are originally from Italy, right. We certainly are an international bunch here. I bet it must have been fun to listen in to the mixed language messages. Beeing bilingual I know all about it. When I came to Canada, I did not speak any English but my French was very good, now that I have not used French for years this has flipped flopped.

voyez-vous bientôt (spelling)

Hello Sofia and Els,

Youare right to say that I have been very busy. It is the last week of school, so there are a lot of activities I have to attend, and to help out. And with an anniversary and a birthday to celebrate, it is the bussiest week of the year.

But I did find some time to meet Mirjam, of course. We met on thursday in Brussels, and visited the museum of art and history. We wanted to see en exhibition about Tibet, that was very interesting but it had not as much textile as we expected. But we were lucky, because there was another exhibition in the same building, which was more what we like to see. It was an "exhibition which confronts contemporary fashion of Belgian creators with costumes from the 18th to 20th century." Some things were simlpy beautiful, others strange, or funny or very weird combinations.

We also have been admiring a very large tapistry, 85 square meters (!) that was made in 1958 and looked brand new. We alse visited a collection of objects that have something to do with hearts, and the historical collection of the museum. Thay had to thtow us out of the museum at closing time. :)

Sofia, Mirjam told me about your meeting. I am very sorry that I was unable to meet with the borh of you on monday. If you want we can meet some other time. I live close to Leuven, so it is not too far to come to Brussels. Let me know how you think about it.

Hi Ria I'm so glad you and Mirjam had such fun visiting all those places. Brussels really is a place where you can find all kinds of art. I would like to meet you but you have a very busy time and I have my limitations too. During Summer my husband will have to work 31 days without a day off and after that we'll go on holidays to the Algarve in Portugal. I guess you know the place :-)) Only after the holidays. We can do a thing if you agree. One time that you are coming to Brussels you can send me a mail and I'll know if I'm able to meet you. We could meet for coffee and talk. Mirjam told me you knitted very well, so we can exchange tips. My knitting is very basic but if there is some other thing from me that you want you'll tell me,ok? What would really be nice would be for us three to meet. Imagine the fun we could have. Do you know when Mirjam will come again? In how many months??? Oh well, she will tell us. If you want you can mail me privately and tell me what you decide. Have a great day. Sofia D

Lieve Ria,

Thanks for sharing with us, your day out with Mirjam, I am sorry I was not there. I can imagine you two being pushed out of the museum. Have to think about the movie from Peter O'toole and Audrey Heburn. You could have modeled some of the costumes and stay all night to roam the museum without any interference from anyone....LOL Groetjes terug

Ria i tried to call you , after the BIG RAIN on Sunday , got your son to the phone [ he promised to tell you] ,, and a WEIRD noise , thought it happened becuse of the thunders. I read an article in the BULETIN ,, about this exhibition , seems the curator , wanted to attrcact new attention to this museum ,,,as well as to the History of Brusseles Textile production from the Haute couture designers to the pret-a port ones ,, Hence the collection of all those clothes , from which he made those CURTAIN DOLLS , there was a pic of the Leather Bra, and The GEISHA made of Beads .... Thank you Again of being with me , and i suggest we tackle the rest of this museum next time .... For those of you who read .. The lady with the Unicorn ,, we watched and noticed the sewing lines in the ancient tapstries ,,, mirjam

Woow, Algarve, that sounds nice, but hot in august, isn't it? We also have been to Portugal on holidays this year, but more up north, and in may. That was warm enough for us people used to rain and clouds. :-) We visited Porto, Coimbra, Figeira da Foz and Aveiro. I liked it very much, but most of all Coimbra and Aveiro. I just love towns with a university, like Leuven. Lots of young people around there.

I am hoping that from now on I will have some more time, during the summer. Most of my activities slow down now, and we have had our holidays. So maybe we can work out something. I would love to see your artwork. Mirjam told me about it. I will email soon.

Did they have anything in the exhibit that was knitted before the

20th century? Did they have any 18th century shawls, knitted or woven?

Hi Ria, I'm not going in August but in September. We didn't choose August precisely because of the heat and also because there are too many tourists and it can be a mess :-) Once I'm back in Brussels I'll have all my time for myself if you know what I mean. Husband back to work and I'll be alone with my crafts :-) I'll wait for your message ok?? Sofia D
