Hi Cher,

I think that's a great price for your hand dyed and made socks, you could have charged more.

Che, that sure makes them expensive but Aussie dollars - but then they are hand spun ,hand dyed etc so I guess they are therefore well worth it.

However,Cher, although I knew of our currency rate as against the English , I wish you had not frightened me !! We are vaguely planning a trip next year which will ( I hope) include Dorset next March. I will have to save my cents for that English section of the trip thats for sure. God Bless Gwen

Oh Gwen you gotta let me know when you are gonna be in Dorset its right on my doorstep well an hours drive, but where abouts are you gonna be based in Dorset...wow...lol

Regia wool is £6.50 a ball so a pair of handspun/dyed/knitted socks which would be two balls of the regia are still cheap.. ish....lol.

I didn't price them at all, I didn't go in last tuesday, so when I got there I was amazed to find them gone and sold...lol I had given them to the workshop, so didn't matter to me one way or the other I gave them to boost the workshops funds up although we do hold a healthy bank.

Now Jane is insisting I take something for them, so I said fine, I'll have some weaving rug wool...LOL

We have loads over there and it has to be used eventually so I bartered...lol

But do let me know when you come to England, I'm in Wiltshire so look it up on your uk map, or google UK County Map and see it online.

Wow! I paid a lot less than that for Regia in Dusseldorf!

I agree. That price barely covers the cost of the yarn (if you were to buy it). Anyway, it's nice that you sold them!

Oh, my, Els, that was my first "real" trip as an adult, and probably my last. I realized that Keith would never be able to handle those large airports or the public transportation.

As for the Regia, I don't think that our dollar had much to do with it, as I was paying in Euros, and with the conversion, it was significantly cheaper. I got three balls of Regia and two balls of Brazillia for 13.99 (in Euros). That works out to less than $20, I think.

Well, since I was *in* Dusseldorf at the time, I didn't have to worry about postal charges.

well that's the difference between us Katherine, it's so dear to get wool here at times, the odd little wool shops we now have because people have stopped knitting over the last 40yrs are gradually getting pushed out and can't compete with factory prices where those that do knit go to get it from as mail order...

We were once such a great knitting nation, but now the UK'ers don't knit so much because they'd rather buy a shop bought cheapy thing that is horrid and won't stand the test of time..

Wool is expensive here, too, Cher. And, since that was my one and only time to be in Germany, I really wish I had bought more. I *do* have a contact there who may be able to get me some, and send it as a gift. Since I have some Euros left over, I won't even need to worry about exchanges.

And most North AMericans are the same as UKers. I call it "planned obsolescence".

Ah Katherine I was pulling your leg...LOL

Great that you could go on this trip, and who knows, there may be other trips as well. I can imagine that traveling for Keith may be really hard and difficult. I am starting to find it a chore as well, so for Keith it must be really hard. Amazing how prices differ, from one place to the other. Often there are hidden taxes to protect the manufactures in the country that is importing the goods (in Cher's case) The same happens here in Canada. You need to know your tariff numbers well, in order to prove that that is not so. We used to import medical instruments from Holland and each time we got a new shipment we had to prove that similar instruments were not manufactured in Canada, that would eliminate the duty. Real pain in the bud....LOL

Cher, I did not know that you are in that area. . We have no definite plans as to where we might be but the object of the exercise is to visit Lulworth and perhaps Almer as well

All my mothers people came from Lulworth and my fathers from Almer. Lulworth is of the greatest interest to me simply because two of my great great uncles were Cistercian Monks and were educated there before the Monastery moved to the coast - in fact when the monastery was moved the Woolfrey family moved into the old monastery as their home.

As far as being based anywhere that is just usually where the tariffs for accommodation are not to high and so that means out of town a bit which is great. We will, I suppose, be flying into London and then hire a car so maybe we could catch up with you somewhere along the line - that would be fun indeed. At the moment as we are only in the early planning stage and so it depends on when we leave here and to which place we go first so that it could be anywhere between the months of March April May or even June. I most certainly will let you know as soon as we do ! God Bless Gwen
