Sunday again

Hello everyone, yes, it is Sunday again - comes around too quickly. It is only 6 am here so I am very early even for you Saturday people !

My day will be much the same as the last week which has been hectic to say the least. A dear friend of our - whom we have been more or less looking after for 26 years was taken to hospital for a couple of days which was actually a good thing as it made him realise that he can no longer care for himself.

However this begged the question - where for him to go - no use offering him to join us for awhile as we have three flight of stairs. So to cut it short we found a beautiful assisted care place - like a modern hotel and so we took him there and that made both he and us happy to see him in such a lovely place and everything being done for him - even the laundry.

Knowing he would never return to his unit he asked that it be placed on the market and this meant cleaning out everything - furniture to the charity people - things to the tip - packing all his clothes and papers to take to him etc etc etc Now I am totally worn out but have to go back to day to empty the food cupboard of staples and tinned food ect which can also go to the charity places.

So have a nice weekend and I will be back tomorrow when I have recovered God Bless Gwen

Dear Gwen, you are right it is amazing how fast a week flies by. Even though today is not Sunday yet, for me, I had a great day. A old friend came to visit for the day and we went for a 3 hour long hike with my brother and sister in law. We went up Cobble Hill Mountain, and all around all the trails. Low and behold, it started to snow on our way back. It is a lovely winter wonder land out here. Most likely tomorrow it will all be gone, so we do enjoy what we have now. It looks great outside.

Gwen I know what you are talking about. Helping an older friend, moving to assisted care. We did that last June, July and August. We also had to sell her house, so she would have the money to pay for the assisted care. Otto and I cleaned out her house, but it was slow going, because we found that she had stashed jewelry and money everywhere. It was 45 degrees C and no airconditioning. We still have most of her things in storage, because for now she is living in one room, where she is getting full assisted care. Margaret had a bad fall on the bus and was not able to walk the first couple of months. Even now she walks with a walker. She has well adjusted to her move, and even started a carpet bowling league. She may at one time move into her own apartment, with some assistance like laundry, and shopping etc. For now she wants to be where she is. Margaret will be 89 in April. Quite a lady.....What Otto and I call the back bone of the country.

It is not quite Sunday here, yet, but getting close. I am about to go to bed, and, I hope, *not* to dream! Just to sleep. Yum.

I have just got up at 6.30 am here in UK. I am sat in my workroom and have just been looking to see what I am going to do today. I have been making butterfly and fan greeting cards that need assembling in two or three layers.

My DS is picking me up at 8.45 and we are going to an antique fair. He collects folding pocket knives. I look for beads, old needlework tools of which I have quite a collection. Also I look out for old buttons.

Once I managed to get a red leather case holding several sets of bright blue steel DP sock needles and bodkins. It dates back to the 1880's. A few needles were missing but I have manage to replace them by foraging round boxes at antiques fairs. There are a couple of bodkins missing so I am looking for them.

So down to breakfast and the cocktail of medicine that keeps me alive with my heart probs. Shirley

It is just Sunday here - and I am heading off to bed. We went to a potluck mardi gras dinner here - various types of Cajun food. I brought blackened catfish. After we got home we watched local Olympic favorite Apollo Ohno race and win gold. He got his start here at the local rink as a roller skater before switching to ice. Just past midnight now and time for bed.

Tomorrow we are going to have brunch with my younger son and his girl friend.

Ells I know what you mean about finding money everywhere - we found just on $3,000.00 would you believe . I think in this day and age it is not good to have much money in the house and I just goggled at this amount. However it is safe in his bank now so all is well.

I would love to see your snow - I thought this would be a bit late for snow on Vancouver Island, however enjoy the spectacle while you can.

We left here early this morning ( Sunday) and after spending the day finishing clearing out John's unit and taking some more things to him we staggered home here about 4 pm and after an orange juice ( I did not say it was "pure" orange juice) on the balcony we decided to have dinner there as the evening is so beautiful looking out to sea and up the mountains, and we were talking about Tofino and how we would like to go back there ,but then again there are new places we would like to see before we get too old to travel, but the memories were good to talk about.

God Bless Gwen

Shirley Shone. it is amazing what one can find in antique stores. I have a great story of my SIL. She was driving down to Sydney and spied a little shop in a tiny old town and went in to see if there was anything she would like. She saw a king pattern teaspoon - and as her set ( given to her by her grandma) had one missing she asked to see it. Imagine her amazement when she saw her grandma's monogram on the shaft of the spoon , exactly like her set. God Bless Gwen

Els, the hike sounded beautiful, I could just picture it in my mind. I sure miss seeing the trees and snow, also water. Everything is so dry here, it's now close to 130 days without any rain at all. We just beat our last drought record which was 101 days. But now a large front is moving in, clouds everywhere. All I have to do is wash my car today and that should take care of the drought problem.... Gwen, I hope you are able to get some rest after all that packing and moving for your friend. I'm sure he really appreciates all of your help, it's nice to have such caring friends like you. I have finish all the parts of my NYCO sweater. Am doing the ribbing on the neck, which will be a turn-down neck like a turtle neck. Too bad I'm not quite finished, it's cool enough to wear it today. Just have to finish sewing the one sleeve on and do the side seams.... Have a good day everyone. Marie and the cats

Wow, that's pretty ironic that she just happened to go into that particular antique shop, Gwen! How neat for her to find the missing spoon from her grandma's set! :o)

Gwen, for some reason we always get a little blast of winter, with snow, at the end of February or beginning of March. I hope this is the last of the white stuff as I'm *really* not a fan!

It is nearly 11am for me (GMT-6) I'm doing my usual Sunday chores, albeit at half-speed, and DH is folding the laundry.

I've been spinning long-draw, below is a link to some of my output. I'll finish the spinning today with about 650 yd of this bulky 3-[ply woolen yarn, then I'll move on to something else I can spin long-draw (ie, one-handed).

I have my follow-up with the surgeon next Monday, then maybe I can start knitting again, slowly. I've gotten caught up on my Michael Jecks medieval mysteries, now its on to Orson Scott Card and some new British sff author whose name escapes me.

Hi kEveryone,

It's not quite 12:30pm here in cold upstate NY. I've been out and shoveled the snow that we had late yesterday and where the wind had blown in earlier. The sun is out, but it's bitter cold, first time it's been this bad all winter, but from what the local weathermen have said, the month of March we will pay for the nice Jan. and Feb. Sure hope they are wrong.

I'll be working on the pineapple afghan this evening and hope I don't have to frog again.

Enjoy your day,

Hugs,

Nora

Good morning Shirley, at least it is morning here. Otto is sitting watching the closing fun of the Olympics. I am catching up on computer stuff and will finish my serged scarf. Great to hear that you also have a needlework tools collection. So do I, although lately I have found that it becomes way to exspensive to add to. Tell me about the items in your collection. I have always found it lots of fun to find the odd tool at garage sales and even at the Sally Ann.

Here we had a bit of snow yesterday, but it did not stop us of hiking up Cobble Hill Mountain. Today it is hazy and the trees are hidden in fog. The snow is nearly gone.

Have a great day everyone

Eimear you got your wish, the snow, at least at my house, is all gone again. It looked lovely though. My kind of winter...LOL

Good to hear you had a good meeting. You sure are going to be a busy lady, but indeed it is going to be lots of fun. Eimear and I have signed up for a filting session (not fulling this time, but pure felting...LOL), with our Guild and we are also going to do a weaving sample of shadow weaving. That is a little bit like shadow knitting, I think

Have a great weekend

Eimear I can understand your not being a fan o f such weather - I know I would not like to "live" with it - like doing all the things one has to do outside but I have only had the fun of visiting and seeing the beauty of it and then leaving ! God Bless Gwen

Marie , it sure is a good feeling today that it is now all done and I can laze the day away if I want to !

I had to smile at your "drought" 130 days - just ove three months - we call a drought at least a couple of years - our recent one - not yet finished has been five years - this is out in the country , of course, not here on the coast where I think the longest we have had without rain is about 6 months.
