dress patterns

I'm wondering if anyone has any good suggestions of patterns for a few really nice dresses. Not formal, not tailored for business, but just pretty, feminine dresses. And they must be extremely easy.

It's for myself, i used to love sewing but am dealing with some disabilities and am trying to figure out positioning of my work station so i can sew at least a few minutes at a time. Probably most awkward part would be laying out/cutting out fabric so that should be as simple as possible.

I went to a Joann store yesterday and saw so many beautiful fabrics on clearance! I look through patterns, but sometimes easy doesn't really mean easy, and probably some of the ones NOT marked easy could actually work just fine.

Why not go online to the different pattern companies and check out the styles, etc. then you will have an idea of the difficulty in cutting and sewing various ones. For example:

, look at pattern

5189(someone mentioned it yesterday). It is a very pretty, princess style dress. Personally, I prefer Vogue Basic Designs, but I have not purchased any for several years, tend to use the same ones over and over, just changing one part, like sleeves, neckline, etc. HTH. Emily

what body type do you have? that will determine what looks good on you, not "trends".

You might enjoy PatternReview, a site established three or four years ago for just that purpose. Reviews are written by people who have used the pattern, with comments on sizing, instructions, fit, and so on.

Definitely not much into trends. I'm pretty much a pear shape, always have to alter things to accomodate for that. Kind of inspired me to try sewing again, after trying on dozens of dresses that were too snug across the hips. I think the princess seam designs are probably my best bet, but never worked with those before.

I'd suggest poking around in the reviews at

a look, for instance, at Textile Studio's Barcelona dress, or La Fred's Helena dress reviews, or Stretch and Sew's 1500.

Thanks for this site!! Going to use it for pattern reviews as well as motivation - they have a stash contest - can only make things using fabrics you already have....top person has made 8 things using 11 yards....I can easily top that..if I just get motivated!! It goes until

9/30, so I can bust out a lot of things in that time :-)
