Free Doll Patterns

I'm looking for free doll clothing patterns for an 18 inch "american girl like" doll. My daughter would like me to make a few things for her. Thanks,

I don't know about free, but you can get 99c patterns from JoAnn's when they have a sale. All the major pattern companies seem to have several doll clothes patterns available. JoAnn's often has a 40% coupon also, but the pattern sale is cheaper. Sometimes the price is $1.99 or $3.99 for Vogue. Sign up for the newsletter.

Or you could try making your own based on the clothes you already have.

Try googling "free doll clothes patterns". I found a few -- one for a kimono. All you really need is one to get started -- just change the fabric and trim for variety.

Good luck.

Thank you, Yesterday I found several books at the library for 18 inch dolls. I don't know why I didn't think to look there first.

In your original message, you said you wanted patterns for "18 inch "american girl like" doll". Be aware that true American Girls doll's body shape is quite a bit different from that of 18" "baby dolls". If you have access to the doll you are sewing for, take a lot of measurements and check them against the pattern pieces.

Thank you for the heads up. As I was looking at the pattern pcs I did notice. I do think I'll be able to still use the patterns. My daughter does have an American Girl doll, the reason I said American Girl like is because the real American Girl patterns cost too much for my budget.

You're welcome, I know how much I hate expending time and $$$ on a project, only to have the item(s) not fit. I have made several garments for my DGD's AG doll, including:

was able to draft that pattern using an official AG doll pattern lent to me by a woman on this newsgroup (thanks again, Doreen). If you buy one pattern, you can use it to make many other costumes for your DD's doll, and it's a lot of fun making matching outfits for the girl *and* the doll. I made "Kirsten's" dress and pinafore for my DGD and her doll:

DGD does competitive Highland Dance, and it was fun making her doll a matching costume. I also made DGD a hand-sewn kilt and two vests. Beverly

Thanks!

Those were from 2 years ago. I live in Oregon, and this was the second time I entered my sewing (and some cooking) at the State Fair. The entire second collection is at:

should search online for your state's or county's fair, get the entry book and rules and give it a go. I had lots of fun, and really enjoyed it both times. There is another member of this group, Joy Hardie, who is a big promoter of the Michigan State Fair, maybe she'll pop in with some advice.

Ah, Joy. You remind me that it may be going on a year since I've seen Joy posting in our group. I enjoyed her posts so much and do miss her. She went on a camping trip with her kids to the Grand Canyon after sewing camping gear, and reported on it afterward. But not long after that she became missing in action. Does anyone know what's come of her?

Butterick patterns $1.99 this weekend at TSWLTH. I've checked the website and will have my wish list in hand, bright & early Saturday morning.. Oh, one of my DDs sent me a website of vintage patterns with a circular skirt is there and a low price at that. Emily

Thank you, but can you tell me what TSWLTH is?

TSWLTH = The Store We Love To Hate

AKA JoAnn Craft and (almost no) Fabric

reason we love to hate them is that they carry almost *no* high quality fabric, and seem to have driven real local fabric stores out of business.

ahhh ... I get it now. Thanks. I'm always looking for new fabric stores, you would think that in my area there would be quite a few. If there are, I can't find them.

Look at the sewing machine dealers. Here in the Houston, TX area, I find them to be the best sources. Emily
