Half slip waistband / lingerie elastic / mystery stitch

If I go into a store and look at the elastic waistlines on half slips and other items, every one of them is put on with the little scallops on the lingerie elastic showing just so, and with a zig zag looking stitch which may or may not be called a zig zag stitch. It is very straight and the stitches are uniform. I cannot find anyone who sews things for money who can do this. Apparently it requires some sort of magical sewing machine. Can anyone tell me what this stitch is called and what kind of sewing machine can do it?

Is the stitch like this:

/\ /\ /\ / \ / \ / \ / \/ \/ \

If so, it's just a simple 3 step zigzag and easily done on a domestic machine with that stitch pattern. I do it quite a bit on customer garments. You can get fancy feet that allow you to apply the elastic as you go, but it's easy enough without (I have the foot for my machine, but have never used it. Hey, I'm a completist, ok!).

I have a skirt (not slip) with the same thing, only on mine the elastic is serged onto a tiny little facing, then topstitched with a double needle. I love the little scallops, thats why I bought it. (yes, I bought it, no time for sewing lately with both kids home and no proper sewing studio)
