Help with flower girl's dress

Hi,

I am making a dress for a flower girl. I am not a professional seamstress but I have sewn many nice dresses. I am making a dress for a flower girl. The fabric is a satin with just a hint of shine. It has a 'slub' design that is selvage to selvage. It is probably a dupioni (sp?). I'd say it almost looks to have a linen look. My question is, should I have the 'nap' going horizontally on the dress. Nothing was said to me. The wedding is in another state. I wanted to have some consensus when I call the bride and if she is not sure herself, maybe I could make the suggestion. My instinct tells me it should go horizontally like a garment made from linen.

The dress is a simple sleeveless, scoop neck with an organza fabric overlay on the long skirt.

Thank you for any suggestions,

Linda

Horizontal is the 'correct' way - but you might like to give them a call and see for sure which they would like.

You can use Dupion vertically for straight dresses, but assuming it is a more fully skirted flower girl dress horizontal is best.

Stand back, ladies, let me deal with this:

SMACK!

Now go and wash your mouth out with soap, young lady!

Hehehe! And there was I thinking: *I* could do that - it would look pretty as well as different!

Actually silk roses made from dupion are cut on the bias. And to my mind, dupion is best used in enormously large quantities gathered up so it is running in all directions. We use it like that for dresses and curtains anyway - wonderful material.
