Pattern slipped from dress

I 'slipped' a pattern from a favorite sundress, and finally got around to= sewing it today. Couldn't, of course, find a similar soft rayon blend fabr= ic,so I bought some pretty pink/grey print,a quality quilter's cotton with = a soft hand. Boy, has the price of cotton gone up.(gag,choke). For the mock-up, I used a black-and-white cotton print, which I got at a= yard sale for 50 cents. It was in 3 odd pieces, but I managed layout and g= ot a fairly good pattern match across the skirt gores.6 panel, full-length.= Darted bodice,ending just below the bust,low round neck,sleeveless, w/boun= d armholes. No zip, no buttons--you pull it over the head. Got the fit pretty good, minor boo-boo with length of back center panel, w= hich I cut 2" too short.Still can't figure out how I did that. But I cured = it by cutting a strip 2&5/8 long,making sure the print pattern matched well= , and sewing it across the top of the CB panel. You can't tell where the bo= o-boo is. And it might be a fun color-block detail to use on another dress. The fabric is crisper than the original rayon dress, so the fit is a bit = different--not as flowing and drapey--but I think it will soften some with = washings. Overall, I am pleased with it, and can't wait to tackle the pink = cotton. I should have made these a month ago. It's been too hot to wear jeans or = long pants, and shorts are a no-no for me. I just don't go there anymore. A= nyway, I bought 3 jackets--lightweight,airy, 3/4 sleeve,--they look knitted=

--in white, oatmeal, and black, to wear with sleeveless things.I'd rather h= ave sewn them, but try finding knitted fabric mid-summer. Busted the clothi= ng budget for the year, so I'd better get busy and sew the other things I n= eed. Cea

Super fix!

Sounds cool and comfy. Do you still live in Florida?

I just ordered some of their $3.00/yard fabric sale a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to make several loose longish cotton dresses to wear when it's warm, this is one of the prints I am going to use:

No, I've lived in Va. for a long time. It is hotter than 2 hells here this summer.

"Ah," says Cea,"you are a trouble-maker and an enabler. How could I have forgotten that?" Nice B/W fabric. Guess I should have described the knit as crocheted--very open-weave, airy. Anyway, my fabric room is full now.

I must have misremembered. I now we exchanged snail mail a couple of times, but it's been a while ago.

Although didn't one of your wonderful stories take place in FL... maybe while you were a military spouse? Or am I completely off?

It is very nice, I have not yet laundered it, but it has a nice hand, and the print is mahvalous!

Too danged true. I really had no business buying the B&W print, but it was so cheap! ;-}

Beverly, your memory is great--all correct, and I did live in Key West for 6 years. I enjoyed many aspects of it. Still have a skimpy crocheted bathing suit, which I come across long enough to say: "Really? Me?" before I bury it again in the relic pile. Cea

Sigh, I know, 'know' is spelled "know". I just don't know how I managed to spill it "now". Oh, wait, I know, my brains are on vacation right now.

What a relief, I can tell the kids to postpone the nursing home commitment! ;-}

I would advise you to put that skimpy crocheted bathing suit on a dress form and park it in the living room. Your grands will be so impressed! ;->

That's a thought, but my dress form has a stick up it's...you know. I've been sitting here trying to visualize putting the bathing suit on her, but I don't think it's gonna work. Cea

O Great and Powerful OZ:=20 I bow before you, and ask a favor for a friend: One of my online buds who Sews to Survive is currently pulling her hair out= because her embroidery machine has jammed-up. She's had a mega-software cr= ash, and is of the opinion that it has been programmed into the software, b= ecause it is time to up-date. Mind you, she is a subscriber, and was/is a m= achine repairperson. In the meantime, she can't 'unlock' her machine becaus= e it is backed-up with things she was in process of down-loading. Make sens= e? I'm clueless, myself. I always figure she knows what she is talking about. So, the question is= : does anyone here know the activation codes for Amazing Designs? Don't pos= t them here, but simply let me know you have them or where they can be obta= ined. I will add the email addy of my friend's business, which is public, i= f she says it's OK. Cea
