Interfacing & Stabilizer

Nov 24, 2003 5 Replies

Can someone please explain what interfacing is & what its used for. Also, while you're at it, can you do the same for stabilizer? Between all the fusible stuff, stiffeners and so on, I can't keep them all straight. Thanks!

It IS confusing, but it's a pretty dense topic to give you all the info in this forum. Here's an excellent online article that can get you started. After you've read this, maybe you'll have more specific questions.

Interfacing is a cloth that goes onto the fashion fabric to give it body and stability where it needs it. They say in the garment and give it body and shape. Stabilizers do a similar job for embroidery, and are usually removed as much as possible afterwards.

Oh, excellent site Kate. Thank you!

Glad you like it! :) Keep yer eyes peeled - there's a page on seam finishes to go up real soon now!
