Kate, I wrote you an email to the link on your site, but don't know if it went to you or not. I sent an image of a medieval tunic pattern from Smoke and Fire and was wondering if you had heard of them or what you thought of the pattern just from the image. If anyone else knows this company or others you'd recommend, please let me know. I am in the States, but don't mind getting a pattern from elsewhere. I am helping out a musician friend who needs the costume by end of October for an event. Thanks so much! Sonya

Haven't seen it yet! Try sending again...
I've had stuff from Smoke & Fire before now: seemed efficient enough. If you send the image again I can comment on the pattern.
Well, I can't apparently! I just updated my Microsoft Office and now I can't get into Outlook. I get an error saying I need to download an update, but it says the update takes 159 minutes with dial up! UGH! I'll see what I can do. If nothing else I'll get the page from their website.
Just post the URL for the pattern here and I'll go and have a look.

Stock #s LF 104 and106. Not sure about making the hose and "underwear", but know he wantsthe 106. S
I don't know how good the instructions are, but the pattern pieces will be quite simple. For the underwear, unless they give period seam methods, use flat felled seams wherever possible.
For the hose I'll hunt further, bit I know the Vikings used a seam that both stopped the fabric fraying and had some stretch in it. I'll see if I can find out how they did it. Be warned: it WAS a hand made stitch!
What's he play, cello? :D
--Karen D. curious!
He is an amazingly talented 18 year old who plays the mandolin, fiddle, and guitar. His music style is a complex but rich mixture of Irish/Celtic tunes dating from ancient to modern. He just had his first CD produced and is so humble and gracious despite it all. He and his father and little brother have a band. I'll try to find the link to its website if you're interested.
Please pass the website on, if possible. I am a huge fan of older Celtic music. Emily
