Machine Cross Stitch

Feb 08, 2004 2 Replies

Hi,

Does a machine exist that can sew cross stitch onto Aida (or evenweave) using DMC double stranded cross stitch thread?

If this is possible, I would like it to be able to create fairly large designs eg., width and height up to about 24", and be able to put in multiple threads at once so I don't have to change the colours very often.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Jacqueline

It's not a machine, but a program to use for an embroidery machine design.

I don't know about those particular threads. If they're meant for hand-work, I imagine they wouldn't have the elasticity to work in a machine, where they get pulled back and forth through the eye of the needle multiple times.

The Elna 8000 and 9000 have numerous cross-stitch stitches, for which you use machine embroidery thread (Madeira 40 weight or whatever). You might be able to double-thread through one needle, and you can use a double needle with two colours, but I don't know if you would be able to get the effects that you want with it.

My Elna 8000 is quite old now, so it might be worth checking if Elna's more modern machines offer similar stitches. I don't know about any other brands, sorry.

:) Trish
