Making Patterns to Fit

I posted before and asked if anyone had used the Luterloh Pattern Drafting system. It is German. I find it absolutely marvellous.

I no longer need any of the quite expensive American pattern adjusting books with their complicated cut and slash methods to get a fit.

This German system works on the Golden Rule of the body - and while I was originally sceptical about it, it works!

I found this site which has a demo of the system - it works from just the bust and hip measurement.

may be brilliant for people who are 'Golden Rule Shaped', but howcan it work for those who aren't? I have a normal bust measurement formy other measurements - from bust and hip you would think I was aperfect 16. But in fact, I am flat-chested with a broad back. Evenquite sophisticated pattern cutting 'systems' don't always work withthis. And I am quite short, so my back length to waist is never whatpatterns expect.

However, I can see that it would be good for producing a first-draft of a pattern rather than starting with a commercial pattern, and if a person's only figure quirks were non-standard circumferences it might well be brilliant for them.

Well ok then - but I am far from a standard fit. I am a size 16DD bust with a very narrow back! I am short-waisted and am slightly rounded at the top of my back with fleshy shoulders. I am a good

16-18 front top size and about a 14 back top (European sizing) but below the waist I am a size 14, My waist and hip measurements are about the same - sort of like a tube.

So, how do I get on? Well I can only tell you that this Lutterloh pattern drafting did it for me! There were some minor adjustments - but nothing like the drastic cutting and slashing I had to do with the American system that actually did NOT work for me in the end.

I can only go off my own experience.

Does the system enable you to adapt or alter other, ready-made patterns or is it just for making a few standard patterns?

Yes, it would be interesting to know a bit more. When I used to use knitting machines a lot, my Singer used a 'knitradar' patterning device that used half-sized patterns, and it is amazingly much easier to play with little pattern pieces than full-sized great flappy things! I wish I was convinced it would work for me; I'd be quite tempted to try it.

I don't see how it could be used to alter ready-made patterns, but presumably you could adapt the given patterns, do you think?
