Mink - need help

Aug 25, 2003 2 Replies

Hello all, I have not been posting for a while but have been reading from time to time. I am making a doll mink coat from a mink stole and wonder if there are any tips I need to know. My intention is to cut the coat from the stole and just run it up and then add a lining - nothing fancy. I seem to remember there is something I should - or should not do with real fur - but for the time I can not remember what it is. Anyone have a clue? Thanks! Sun

Hi Sun. I don't know if this is what you mean, but when you cut the fur, be careful to just snip with scissors and just cut the leather. Then your fur will pull apart and you will have nice long fur at the seams. Also, when you sew it, use paperclips or small spring clamps to hold the pieces together, and use a pencil to push the fur away from your stitching line. I made 2 teddy bears from a friend's mother's fur coat (after her mother passed away), and she gave one to her sister. They turned out beautifully. HTH

Oh, and I'm sure I don't need to say to be careful with the nap. LOL
