Why do we say 'My pants are too long' , when it's just one pant? One rump, not two. Singular, not plural. Granted, there are two legs attached, but they are neither pant, nor are they rump;merely leg--er...legs. So: my pants is too long. Can you shorten them? Cea
Beverly, You beat me to it! Horaaaaay, Cea's back!! Let the games begin!! Welcome home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love Ya, Juno
Well then, why do you say "My pants", which is plural, then follow it with "is" which is singular?????? Of course, I *have* known some rather precious sales persons to hold up a nether garment and say "This is a nice pant". Like the old quote says, "You pays yer money and you takes yer choice".
Your pants are fine. Your absence was too long. It's so good to see you've come back. Put your little foot in this puddle of rubber cement now, please. Thankyouverymuch.
"Pant" refers not to the garment, but to the model. (I'm using "model" in the sense it has in sewing machines and cars.) It's what you refer to when you say "can I get this in a smaller size?" rather than what you refer to when you say "this is too big".

Yes, we had an uneventful, easy trip home, thank you. I was able to rest a little on the plane, and both Mother and I had window seats with no one next to us, which contributed to the restfulness--for both of us! LOL
We sure lucked out with the weather, except for the beastly heat. We got caught in a bit of a downpour on our way back from Kensington Palace, but just waited it out under a big tree with several other hapless parkgoers, and a half-drowned wiener dog. My little grandson thought it was the most fun he'd ever had, he just chortled at every drop falling on his little head. It was hilarious.
