Nearly on topic, static question

Anyone here know a non-commercial way of preventing or getting rid or static electricity ? Something along the line of :"putting a brick in your dryer", but not quite as expensive.

I am not sure why but I never use to use Bounce or any of that stuff and I never realy had a static problem. But for the past few weeks it has been getting ridiculous.

Now I would realy like to avoid using the commercial stuff if I can. Does anyone know any "tricks" that would help ?

Thanks

Jean

Pull your clothes out of the drier when they're still slightly damp, and increase the relative humidity of your room air.

Thank you all,

Everybody seems to be of one mind on this. I went and checked my humidity gauge and it was just under 40%. I had forgotten to turn my humidifyer back on after a run of warm(er) weather.

I probably never notice a static problem before because I usualy have it on most of winter, my appartment got so dry the first year that my dinning room table actualy split ( not sure what the exact english word for this is but the table now has a crack in the middle of one of the pannels not just where the boards meet on board is actualy thorn ).

I turned the humidifier back on and I will see if it helps

greatfully

Texas in the winter is extremely dry, up north. I put lotion on my hose after I put them on to keep my skirts from binding to me like cocoons. It works for me. Folks are almost used to seeing me attempting to march off to the ladies room lotion in hand and legs bound tightly by the static cling in my skirt.

The lotion smells much nicer than the static guard spray which just smells stale and musty. I have also just wiped my hose and the underside of my skirt with a damp cloth. It works ok in a pinch, but has to be reapplied on particularly dry days.

We had a few dry days before DH figured out that the humidifier wasn't working. Real fun to put my hair up when every hair was trying to avoid every other hair! I would take the plant mister I dampen ironing* with and spray the air all around me before combing, and it worked fine. Didn't hurt that some of the descending mist would get into the hair.

  • I dampen press cloths more often than ironing -- does that make this post on topic?
