Need help with twin needle hemming

Hi all, Hope you can help me. I'm so frustrated. I'm trying to shorten up a tank top (small ribbed material ). It was way too long, made me look even longer waisted- bad look! So I'm trying to mimic a cover stitch by using a twin needle on my sewing machine (Pfaff 1475). I just keep getting a raised row instead of a nice flat one. Do I need to use a stabilizer? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for you input, Miriam

You need to loosen your upper tensions and possibly put wooly nylon in the bobbin. There have been some detail instructions here in the past, you might try searching old posts.

Are you using a twin needle for stretch knits? And stretch slightly as you go. Press before and after. Thats all I can think of!

Make sure you have the bobbin tension slack enough! On my lily, I need to slacken it off quite a bit for knits.

Most times I just use a single needle and just change the needle position, then carefully sew around the cloth twice. I've actually gotten fairly good at it! I also have a Pfaff 1475 Barbara in SC

So I'm trying to mimic a cover stitch

Sometimes painting the stitching line with a strong starch solution and letting it dry before sewing makes a knit behave much better.

I use a slice of cellulose sponge for a brush.
