Old Singer machine advice

Right...but who still needs an Apple IIe for what it is capable of? The 'useful tasks' have evolved with time (i.e. look at the latest spreadsheets and compare to VisaCalc - which would you prefer to use?)

And try using one with an high speed internet connection.=20

Why was it a mistake? The same sewing machine was available at an independent retailler for $50 more. At least I was out $200 instead of being out $250 for the same piece of junk

Often the items available at the big box outlets may look the same as those available at independent outlets (yes, sometimes with the same model number), but they are not the same item.

You got that one right, for sure.

And you never know till you open them up. Had that happen recently and it was quite a surprise what was missing from the WalMart machine. Now on the other hand one of our weirdly Canadian stores had a machine for sale over xmas for $69.00. Looked pretty good, like a Janome but was badged for the Canadian Tire store. Lady brought it in to see if I could get here a 1/4 inch foot. I had a really good look at the machine asked her if I could take the cover off and low and behold it was a Janome Gem---complete but from the first generation of them. Nice machine but how can we compete with $69.00 machines.

I had heard the CT stores had a "children's" machine for sale, but I didn't know they had a real machine. When I looked for them at the local CT store, there were none there. Zellers has been selling a Janome machine for about a year. I heard it was a discontinued US model and Zellers had bought the entire remaining inventory.

In their Christmas flyer, Husqvarna was offering a White model at $99. It wasn't long after the HV flyer was distributed that Hillbilly Haven's flyer had a machine for 4 dollars less. I would take the White machine over anything at the big boxes any day.

Why in the world would a tire store be selling sewing machines? "Oh, honey, while we're here getting the tire changed, can't we just buy this sewing machine?"

FWIW I understand that Sears also sells a badged Janome Gem for $100 USD

Canadian Tire is more "Sears without the clothes" than "a tire store".

Although most CTC stores have things like snowsuits, and other outdoor types of coats, etc. CTC also owns Marks Work Warehouse, and I read somewhere that some of the CTC stores actually have a Marks clothing section.

They have had household appliances for years and I'm surprised sewing machines didn't show up until very recently.
