OT posts going astray

If you read rcts first and marked all read when you left then any cross posted will not show up as unread when you get to alt.sewing. At least that is the way it works on mine.

At the moment I have according to the box 33 messages ( the number is highlighted in blue) that just aren't there and I am aware that I have various posts marked re....... but no original message. Thats why I am confused, but then I am easily confused:!

I don't mark all read when I leave rct but they are usualy read any way.

Claire, I have my Outlook Express to retreive 300 messages at a time... have you checked under TOOLS/OPTIONS/READ .... under News there is a number you enter. I've always had mine set for 300 as I check the ng's frequently. You might want to bump it up and see what happens. I think it's because alt.sewing is SO much more active than the other groups, and you might not be configured to retrieve all of it.

One more thing, after you have set it to whatever... say, 1000 msg.... go back to TOOLS/RETRIEVE NEXT 1000 HEADERS. I don't know exactly which messages will come up, it might be everything on the server, or everything within a time frame but I'm not too clear on that part.

I just reset my computer to 400 messages and then had to go to tools get next 400 messages and it worked. Learm something ne every day. JJ

I have just checked and I am set to recieve 450 messages,seems enough to me. I usualy pick up 1st thing every morning and a couple of times on a sat or sunday so not picking up often enough shouldn't be the problem.

Since I clicked catch up it seems to be loading the amout that it says it has picked up but the missing ones from the previous days are still lost in the wilderness, makes for some wierd breaks in chat if I reading through a thread!

I will pay close attention for the next few days. Thank you Claire

Yes I understand you, and I did pick up the next 450 and although the missing 33 haven't appeared so far today they are all coming in and "changing colour when read" Maybe it was a weekend gremlin? Who knows! Thank you fingers crossed that all is as it should be now. Claire
