Solid colors

I want to add a good bit of solid color fabric -- good cotton -- to my stash. Basic colors....red, black, yellow, green... Do any of you buy solids online? If so, who sells good quality solid cottons? Any advice about what (or where) to stay away from?

TIA,

Sunny

I seldom buy a solid, Sunny, but I looked over at

to see what they have available. They have 'Tall' quilting cotton solids for $ 2.29 per yard. An interesting price don't you think? It would probably be worth it to order a yard of one of them and check them out. A fine grade of pure white is the one by Kona Bay. Polly

I posted this once, it doesn't show up and I seem to be getting all the posts, so I'm doing it over. Apologies if there are two posts from me about the same thing.

That said, I'm looking for the best place to buy solid colors of fabric. Cotton, good quality, basic colors -- black, white, red, yellow, green...... I'm most interested in your recommendations (or warnings) about online sources.

Thanks, Sunny

Sunny, I am a devotee of Kona solids- I buy them from Hancock's of Paducah and they cost around $4.50 a yard. (That's not the same as the Kona Bay solid fabric that Polly is so fond of, tho.) The Kona solids are quite a 'beefy' 100% cotton fabric- think more along the lines of men's chinos rather than the typical LQS cottons we all love. I do not ever buy solids except for Kona black, but right now I am making a Moon Over The Mountain quilt in all Kona solids. It looks great and will wear- and wash- beautifully and take a lot of use and abuse.

Hope you find some solids that are pleasing to you for your project.

Kona Cotton by Kaufmann is $4.49/yard not on sale and would be more on a sale day at Fabric Depot. I am a very happy shopper from there - the mail service is great. you can register for the sale days which happen twice a month (watch the price when you go online is the unadjusted price - it is always 25% off that. They have 10 yard cuts and 6 yard cuts of black, red and white on sale all the time.

The same fabric is $4.95 at over the rainbow. I am sure you can find it all all prices. $4.95 at equilter.

I do love Kona Bay. I must say though I tend to use more textured "reads as solids" such a moda marbles and equivalent. My plain solids tend to take a second spot lately.

Good luck.

I've bought the Kona solids at Hobby Lobby and have seen them at the local Hancock Fabrics and JoAnn fabrics.

Thousands of Bolts:

now has them for sale at $4.35 per yard. Click on the "solids" group on their home page. I've ordered lots of fabric from them and never been disappointed.

I've been trying to post all day, asking about solids. They don't show up on my screen. Other new posts do, but not my own. Let's see if this one goes through.

I agree with Leslie, I love Kona solids. Sometimes can get it at Joanns although they don't have near the choice of colors that Kona comes in.

Yay, not only can I see myself this morning, but I can see that everybody is singing the praises of Kona Cotton which is really inexpensive at most websites. Thank you, everybody who responded and especially those intrepid souls who brought the information to my email.

I saw two of your posts about solids as well but then again I am not seeing my own posts either!

Maybe google figures that I don't need to read what I wrote since I wrote it, maybe they are trying to save bandwidth! LOL
