Dear Doug and Michelle,

The most famous knitter in the world is a man (Kaffe Fassett), and sailors (men) invented knitting. I went to a King Tut exhibit some forty years ago, and what dazzled me the most wasn't all the gold and precious jewels--it was a knitted glove made of linen. It's a very old craft, much older than we know, I think.

I would call him a famous knitter, (he does have a special way with colors) but not the most famous in the world. I personally would give that title to Elizabeth Zimmerman..... Karen

Thanks for the link, Michelle. It was enjoyable.

You are too young to remember, but I'm pretty sure American football player Rosie Grier [definately a man] knitted back in the 60's or 70's. And back in the really old days [early 20th C] my grandpa from England was a great knitter, crocheter and sock darner.

Unfortunately I don't have any male knitters in my family now - they'd probably be better/faster than me! But I'm always proud of my 20 y.o. DS who is a fearless sew-er [sewer never looks right!] He comes up with great projects and alterations and does his own mending.

Many of us on here follow the example of Teri Jones (retired professor of fashion design and construction) and refer to ourselves as sewISTS

Yes, I am too young to remember, if I did watch sports, I find it boring.

I think the term is "Sewist"!

And I skipped right over that part about the temperature in Calgary, you did that just to bug me!!! you know where I live!

Its so cold I wont even go outside today. According the the weather network it is -15, feels like -25. Feels more like -40 here on the farm though.

Thanks SO much! I still haven't made progress on a trip to your city, maybe next year.

Michelle in Saskatoon.

Dear Michelle,

We have our first real "snow" in eleven years here today. It's 17 degrees outside, and there are 15 inches of snow. I know that is small potatoes to you, but there is no snow equipment here, so we've been snowed in since Friday. We're not fighting yet, so I guess we'll survive. But I'm out of dishwasher detergent, will be out of milk shortly--then we'll start fighting!!

Dear Teri, Where do you live? Here in the NE we start filling our cupboards early in case there is a severe storm. If your not in a snow belt I'm sure it must be a trial though. When my youngest DD lived in the Seattle area she used to get upset with people who didn't know how to drive in snow. One criterion for us allowing our children to go for a drivers license was that you had to be able to get out of our driveway, which is uphill from the garage, after a snow. In areas that are not accustomed to heavy snows it must be tough. Juno

Hehe - you figured me out!

We'll be brown {snowless} by Christmas. But the long johns will come out again in January.

And I skipped right over that part about the temperature in Calgary, you did
