I've googled, I've searched, and can not come up with a pattern to make a soft cue stick case. Have any of you ever seen such a critter? I'd like to make my own, rather than purchase one that looks like everything else in the hall.

I read that as "clue stick" case. I was wondering who you had in mind to beat a *clue* into.
Sorry, can't help with a pattern. They don't look to be horribly expensive, could you lay your hands on one and deconstruct it for use as a pattern?

HA! I can think of a couple of people! ;-)
most case are just easy shapes. Make a dimensioned drawing, add seam allowances and you should be good to go.

Sounds like a good plan, good luck!
For what a pattern costs, you can get a yard of cheap prototypoping fabric. (cotton canvas works)
A hard case is also an option, built around a PVC pipe. ( I have thought of doing a case like this before, but havent done one yet. ) It would have a lining ( automotive headliner ) on the inside, and probably be leather on the outside. The PVC pipe is sandwiched in between. It would open from the top. sort of a cap that attaches with 2
1/2/" velcro.A soft case that zips would be easy enough too. size 5 zipper by the yard should work. (thats the biggest my serger zipper foot takes, so its usualy what I use)

DH has done a hard case for fishing rods out of PVC pipe for transporting the precious rods on areoplanes. He wraps the rods in insulation foam, the type that goes around water pipes, before putting them in the tube. He has glued on screw top ends, and the only downside is that it has to go in oversize luggage when we go on holiday, looks a bit odd when we que up with all the golfers and skiers. For a cue case I would lay down the cue, and use that as a template. Don't forget to add on seam allowances, possibly think of two sleeves if it's a two part cue to stop them knocking together Claire in Montréal, France.
