Let me get this straight, you don't want to fork out the bucks for a legal copy, so you need the code that some one obtained legally to unlock it?

Looks to me like you read correctly. Wouldn't do our thief any good though. The Husqvarna software uses a dongle, along with a product code.

I hate dongles. But I recognize the need for them, given the larcenous souls out there.

Agreed.. Anyone who has ever had a dongle break, get lost, or be in a older, now passe connector knows just how big a pain dongles can be.

One of the biggest problems with dongles is that when the above occurs, most manufacturers will not let you purchase a replacement dongle , even though your software is legally purchased. Instead, they insist that you re-purchase all the software, etc. again.. This is really wrong considering how expensive the software is.

Dongles are such old technology that they are easily bypassed these days mostly by kids. All of the HV/Pfaff dongle programmes have been cracked for ages and posted to P2P groups like Limewire etc. including the new ones. Passwords still work much better but then all it takes is one shared and they are no guarantee either. Again it comes down to individuals and how they conduct themselves.

Well, to me dongles are *infinitely* preferable to those vertical-market pieces of software that only let you install them X number of times.
