searching for instruction of a caftan

Apr 09, 2004 5 Replies

my HB wants to have a caftan, a long one, to wear in the summer at home, of course, 'cause we live in Europe, not in Persia. what do you think of this description, and do you 'know another one?

Here's another how-to site with pix. The more info the better, I say.

Yes, if you are already good at sewing. But it's really not that hard.

I have the pattern for the one on the Smithsonian site. I have made it many times for myself and yes, it is extremely easy and quick to do. This pattern is from the 70s. Emily

for me, it will be the first time, thanks Melinda and Emily.

If you haven't sewn before, this is a *GREAT* first project, (the only better first projects I can think of are non-clothing projects like tote bags and pillow cases and the like) but it will probably take you more than 2 hours. Go VERY slowly, measure 4-5 times before cutting each cut and triple- or quadruple-check before sewing any seam, and make *good* use of the photos that show what your work is supposed to look like.

And if you have a digital camera, post pix somewhere when you're all done so we can all applaud you!

Melinda,

hihihi, LOL, I will make the caftan for the first time, with your instructions. I'm a intermediate, but still learning new things. I didn't have a pattern, that's all. I even don't have a digi camera. Well, wait a month or so, I'll achieve some progress with the pixs on my pc using the Picture It program.
