Sewing Again

Sharon, good for you! It IS nice when someone makes something for you, isn't it? The problem is that most people know I sew, and they're too intimidated to make something for me. But I have two gifts that I truly cherish: a sundress that a former housemate made for me (for Christmas, but it was the thought that counted) from one of my own patterns that she borrowed, and a little pincushion pillow one of my sewing students made for me. I just love the pincushion, especially. Sandy was my daughter's best friend for several years, and she made the gift from the same fabric she made her first project from. Every time I look at it I see her long, curly red hair bent over the machine.

I got Bears football team fabic and cut out the letters BEARS and carefully placed then apliqued the letters so that it looked like the fabric was still in the proper place. It took a bunch of time, anyway I made several of them for the males in my family. One for my cheapscape uncle. The next year he wrapped it up for my brother. The uncle never got another present from me. I've pretty much decided that my sewing is for me, and if you want it you pay me.

Me too, I even cut off the tiny red tag that stuck out of the back of Levi Jeans pockets when I was in Highschool. I didn't know at the time that Jeans companies had a specific stitching pattern on the pockets too or I'd not have bought them. Sandy Erickson
